On stepping up this season

quote:

“Even with Mekhi and Maason out there, I’m still the old guy in the group. Coming to work with those guys everyday, I come in with a smile on my face every day. I’m not in my head as much because I was holding myself back out there. Now it’s me vs. me and I’m confident in myself. I’m just really excited for them to put the ball down.”

On playing against Will Campbell

quote:

“We have our own 318 group and we have pride. Going against Will is crazy because his dad and my dad played together in college, so just continuing their tradition is great.”

On Maason Smith

quote:

“If you see him, he’s bigger. Not like a fat thing, he’s just huge now. He’s in that 315-320 range and he’s put on real lean muscle. We knew it would work out for him because he doesn’t take stuff lightly, he wants to be 100 percent, so when he came back bigger and stronger, we were excited. Maason is a great teammate and a great person. He just wants to work and be the best player he can be.”

On Harold Perkins

quote:

“Harold can play wherever he wants. He’s just that type of guy. He’s the perfect size so you can play him anywhere. Wherever coach house wants Harold to be on that specific play, that’s where Harold will be.

Had the pleasure of meeting him and his dad after the spring game. Very polite, articulate and positive young man.

Anyone got more info on the dad’s matchup?

Will's dad Brian played college football at East Texas State University (now Texas A&M-Commerce); so, I'm guessing their dads were on the same team at least 1 year.

Oh yeah, we’re gonna be scary on the D-Line this year. Remember how we used to trot out a bunch of 6’1 270 guys on the D-Line during Arandas early years? We don’t have that problem anymore, it’s a bunch of freaks on the line now

Solid. From what I remember in Will’s recruiting, his dad is a straight up baw’s baw.

That's pretty cool. I didn't realize that. Where did their dads play?

Friends with and graduated with my son. What’s the issue with paying the young man a compliment?

Why would you find Issue with my comment? You known him 3-4 years, Cool.

Not sure how you find that offensive or what that really adds to conversation but whatever, I’ll let him know.

I whole heartedly expect Maason Smith to have a very dominant year. I would be shocked if he doesn't have a monster type game against FSU week 1.
