Money as a primary motivator

Just a thought, and I'd like yours, which is why I'm starting this thread.
As a person who's hired and fired for years, I've learned a lot about people, and this is one truth I can't get away from and I think it will, and maybe has played out in recruiting.
MONEY...as a primary motivator, is a sure fire way to hire someone to under-perform.
Now, you'll have exceptions to this..like almost every rule, but the general teaching, and anecdotal evidence I've seen is this...
At some point, someone who makes a decision based on $$, as opposed to passion will, sooner or later, either..
1. leave at the mere hint of someone else offering more money, resulting in 0 loyalty to the brand
2. Create complaceney because they've already been overpaid and thus motivation is out the window.
3. Enter the organization as a pre-madonna due to their perception that compensation level makes them "better" than to do certain things, resulting in them getting pissed off about being treated just like everyone else. "Essentially, their ego gets in the way of them being the best they can be"
So, as Kelly has stated, he "won't get into a bidding war" as a notion to avoid these types of children...they are children mentally....IMO is a way to get those players who have an emotional edge. He would theoretically get players who have the "want" to grow, to take the gamble on themselves, and who have the WILL to go along with the skill.
In team buliding, the will is perhaps more important than the skill....becuase once you've paid a kid a stupid $$$$ the will....becomes to use that $$, to spend it and be thee "guy" who everyone thinks you should be.
It's possible this is why it's documented that 5* recruits who go to TX perform so much more poorly than 5* recruits who come here.
THEY ALL GET COMPENSATED WELL, don't get me wrong. It just seems that sometimes taking the most $$ isn't the best deal for anyone's life long term.
So that being said, I would have loved Simmmons skillset in Purple and Gold, especially since his comments lead you to believe the deal was all about the $$ to go to TX.
But, do we think that maybe Kelly knows what he's doing by intentionally capping NIL investments when it comes to certain players? (I don't know this as fact, but it seems that way)

A lot of us felt this way about Perkins.
Might need to cool it a bit.

Again, I said there'd be execptions...simmons may be one as well.
Perkins may be one, and to be fair, I never heard that Perkins made his decision solely based on $$.
If he did, can you point me in that direction?

He is Gordon’s most featured athlete. I’m not calling you wrong but it’s the name of the game now. If you think Perkins came here because he loved LSU and only thought about our culture then I have news for you….

Pre-Madonna >>>> prima donna

I don't see Simmons flipping.
You could tell the mom wanted him home. Then the crazy money on top of it. Eing the home school.
It's over.
I just hope they get another baller at edge.
Who else are they going aftet?

No its time lsu moves on and stops wasting time with players who dont want to be a tiger get on mckinley and mack and im sure others that will flip in the long 4 plus months til signing day, and they may just pull another top 5 class. Also need to keep these players committed and happy. A successful seasom wont hurt by then neither

Roy: I mean, you still could be if you weren't such a pre-Madonna.
Jamie: Did you just call me a pre-Madonna?
Roy: Yeah.
Jamie: It's prima donna. Who the f*ck says "pre-Madonna"? What the f*ck does that even mean?
Roy: It means before Madonna, female vocalists didn't have to work that hard.
Jamie: Are you mad? You never heard of Tina Turner? F*cking Stevie Nicks?

Much better than post-madonna if you ask me.
That aside, some of you are acting like this guy spurned LSU to take few extra dollars to play at Baton Rouge Community College. He's committed to the University of Texas, which is a resource rich football program at a resource rich school in his home state. He'll be able to play high level competition (particularly once Texas enters the SEC next season). Texas football players aren't playing and training in facilities akin to the Central High Wildcats coached by Goldie Hawn. He will have access to pretty high end stuff. And if he performs well, NFL scouts/GMs could probably know enough people in the right places to scrounge up a plane ticket to Austin.
Basically the kid was/is in a pretty damn enviable position of being desperately wanted by two desirable programs. To put that in an every day context, if I'm being recruited by you at your employer and another employer to do the exact same job, and I find both potential employers to be great, why shouldn't I choose the one that is offering to pay me significantly more to do the exact same job?

There are a number of reasons for Simmons' decision that do not involve money. Proximity to home and an easier depth chart to overtake are pretty important. To the extent he gets a degree, UT is a much more valuable degree than LSU, particularly if he wants to live in his home state after football. While we all think LSU is a better program, UT is a top FBS program with great coaches. I'm not saying money wasn't a huge factor; it may have been the deciding factor. But it's not like Simmons chose Mississippi State over LSU.

Is it possible he was spell checked?

Whos says this about money? I'm sure he's getting a nice NIL deal, but he also wanted to be close to his family. He said in his interview, that the most important thing to him was his family. Its not ALWAYS about money to some of these kids. Some of these kids place being near family above a better roster, coaches, money.

Never heard of an amount of money for Simmons, anyone hear anything?
