House Painters...Why do they all look like they've just got released from prison?

Why do they all look like they've just got released from prison? From their raggedy, just drank a case of beer and showed up to your house look to their dodgy beat to hell van? Which sometimes moonlights as the families Ford Aerostar van with ladders still attached to the roof.
How much do they get paid? Can't be that much overhead?
I've never seen a Profesional paint crew

IDGAF whether they just got out of prison or not as long as they paint a straight line and clean up after themselves.

Those baws do good work. The ones that look like pros are hitmen.

My buddy is a high school math teacher and paints houses in the summer. He looks exactly like that

The good ones, and I mean top shelf house painters, the best of the best, are drunk by the time they show up for the job. They have to steady the tremors in their hands.

A guy meets a hooker in a bar.
She says, "This is your lucky night.
I’ve got a special game for you.
I’ll do absolutely anything you want for $300, as long as you can say it in three words."
The guy replies, "Hey, why not?"
He pull his wallet out of his pocket, and one at a time lays three hundred-dollar bills on the bar, and says, slowly: "Paint…my…house."

Everyone knows the best painters use meth and wouldn't touch a beer.
For true though, buddy of mine had a successful painting company for twenty years and gave it up to run a small retail business. He told me "I had to quit the painting business or else go to jail for killing one of those guys. I chose to quit." He has endless meth head painter stories.

I don’t know who you’re hiring but my painters are latinas who paint perfect lines with no tape and no mess.

Why are painting estimates all over the place? A painting company said it would cost $10,000 to paint my house. Two Mexicans said they would do it for $1500 but they had no equipment, not even brushes. I ended up hiring a family of Guatemalans who did a great job for $5,000.

They USED to look white guys who just got out of prison.
Now they all look like border jumpers who hang out in the Lowes/HomeDepot parking lot by the bushes.

We have a guy painting right now. Looked like a bum until this week when he showed up with a haircut and shave. Didn’t recognize him. Said it’s too hot for hair.

Friend,
Our painter looks nothing like you describe. He is a gentleman and has a similarly respectable crew. His name is Mark and I believe he is Southern Baptist, but we still warmly welcome him when it is time to paint. We usually only paint once every five years, and over the years Mark and his crew have given me some excellent painting tips. Perhaps I could send you his number.
Yours,

Aircraft painter for 12 years. The reason they show up in dirty painted clothes is because they care more about the paint on the product than their own clothes. 2nd they drive a crappy looking van is because who wants paint stains or paint leaking in a nice vehicle. And if they kept everything cleaned and spotless then their over head would be alot higher which they would pass that bill to the home owner. Some people need to get their heads out of their asses and quit judging people on how they look and judge them on the quality of their work. Not everyone is a Beta male who worries about their appearance. Maybe they just worry about doing a good quality job for a good honest pay

I don't mind what they look like, but boy it pisses me off when they quote $14,000 to paint my 2,100 sq ft house.
That's a pretty good motivational technique to get me off of my lazy arse and outside painting my house myself.

I paint for a living, mostly interior. Generally speaking, exterior painters are usually rougher around the edges because outside work is crappier and doesn’t pay as well. Often times the same types of guys you imagine when you think of drywall crews.
I painted the interior of a mansion this spring where they initially hired guys like op described. They would’ve butchered the job and were gonna spray the wrong paint on the trim. Left caulk residue everywhere. Fired them and brought us in after a month. The axiom “you get what you pay for” holds true for painting like any other business.
These guys were probably getting paid $15/ hour. It was an 8,000 square foot house and their bid was ridiculously low.

Got a painter at my house that I once worked with when I was in college. He told me he's gonna retire soon but only work for a few people every now and then. I'm included in that number and I'm grateful for it.
