You sure you're not thinking of GBP? I just looked, and it doesn't look like the EUR has ever gotten that high since it became an actual currency in 1999.

It was Euro. I looked too trying to figure out what year it was and couldn't find definitive values for the euro on a monthly basis. The 1.80 probably was a shitty exchange rate from a cambria or maybe was the effective rate after fees and currency conversion my bank charged for an ATM withdrawal. Those fees were higher back then than now. I just know it was expensive as hell.

Ya I was in Greece in 2009 which was probably the worst exchange rate it's ever been or close to it. It was 1.42 I believe. I was basically pounding $8 beers

I have been there before when it was almost $1.40 for a Euro but that was about the worst.
$1.80?
Was it that bad?
You probably mean .80 Euro for a dollar.

I wonder how the hell you guys could even afford a hotel in Monaco. Monaco has been consistently ranked as the most expensive city in the world to visit and live in. It’s literally a resort for celebrities and formula 1 millionaires

The only way I would even think about going to Europe is if I was going to a sporting event like Wimbledon, French Open, World Cup or Euros.

Ah, now that’s possible. Either paid exchange rate or something with a tack on fee. It’s been a long time since I traveled with an exchange fee free card, so I didn’t even think of that.

Monaco is kind of like Vegas in that, while it can’t exactly be done on the cheap, it doesn’t have to be exorbitant. With that said, if you want to blow it out, you can blow it the frick out to such a mind numbing extent you just can’t rival in most other places.
For most people, a day trip, or maybe an overnight, is all they really need. Getting full enjoyment out of staying longer will start to bleed you quickly
