Live in LA, vehicle is in FLA.
Deal is too good to not consider - $80 there, $88 here

Somewhat hesitant due to inexperience with doing this. Plan would be to fly to central FLA, uber to dealership, drive vehicle home.

Personal hangups are mainly general concern about doing this
- financing with my credit union on out of state purchase (assuming I didn't use manufacturer financing)
- do you sign paperwork committing to a vehicle before going? AND keeping them from selling specific vehicle you want?
- problems with them trying to add charges since I'm stuck if I don't buy it
- take whatever paperwork to DMV when I get back and pay taxes

TIA

If you are financing through a credit union, more than likely they will title during loan closing. Funding will be supplied to dealership by them as well.

It’s not bad. I’ve done it a few times and the dealership usually takes care of the plates. In my case, the dealership just fedex the plates to us. The only issue I had was the dealership sent me the wrong plates but they actually drove to our house and the other person’s and did the swap.

It’s pretty easy. Get the paperwork, confirm everything’s correct, bring them a cashier’s check.

Seems like a lot of hassle to save 8 dollars

I think Louisiana now requires you to pick up your plate at the DMZ.

You will likely need to put down a deposit and sign something so they don't sell it.

Make sure your sale price is in writing and rock solid.

Bought out of state 3 times. All painless other than having to go to the damn DMV

I just bought one in Gainsville and had it shipped to my door. I wouldn't get on a plane until the deal is complete
Paperwork can be overnighted both ways. It's a little longer process but well worth never stepping foot in a dealership.

The dealer I used took care of all of it. The plates showed up at the dealership and were mailed to my house in Louisiana.

Yeah, here’s Trump picking up his license plate during his first administration:

From Texas...
Bought a 2016 Ram in Gonzales and all taxes were paid at closing & Texas plates mailed to Mr.

Bought 2021 Grand Cherokee L in Oklahoma City and I had to pay taxes & get plates here at tax office in Sugar Land. One extra step, but still pretty easy.

Didn't really save on the 2016 as nobody here had what I wanted without sunroof. Timing was good as I did it on weekend of LSU vs Florida so I was going anyway.

I saved a lot in the Jeep as they sold below sticker & gave me just about what I wanted for the Ram, while Houston area wanted over sticker. There were several vehicles with Texas, Arkansas, & Kansas in the parking lot being trade in.

In early 2009 I bought a car from a dealership in Washington state. I sent them a refundable deposit to hold it until I could go up and test drive it (they had never delivered a vehicle so far so they had no idea how lol). Flew up, test drove it, loved it, signed the financing paperwork there then drove it back to Louisiana.

Once I got back I had to contact the OMV about a new plate, then pick it up from their office once it was ready.

That was over a decade ago so there may be some points I have forgotten, but that was the gist of it.

You may look into cost of shipping. Bought a car a few years ago in Atlanta. They fed ex all paperwork and shipped it to my house and picked up my trade. Costs about $600. Saved me a long drive or plane ticket and lots of time and hassle.

Dealer should collect the taxes for you.

Also im not about to do this search for you, but depends on who has higher taxes. I puchased in AL, who has lower taxes on vehicles, i had to pay the diff.

A credit against the 4.45 percent state sales tax will be granted to residents who paid a similar tax on the purchase of the motor vehicle in the other state if that state allows a credit for taxes paid in Louisiana.

So I found this
FLA Tax info

So if I'm reading that correctly, I pay 6% in FL and then the difference here - think it's 8.7% in St Tammany

Bought a car in Austin about a year ago (I'm in OKC). They advertised free shipping, however then tried to reneg and say it only meant within Texas.

I made those MFs ship to Gainesville (look it up on a Texas map) and I met them there.

Otherwise, easy process. Also bought a car in Kansas City recently. Drove up, they looked over my trade in while I signed paperwork. Took a test drive and was back on the road in 45 mins.
