the colors thing is interesting
when I ordered my new vehicle I hated all the color offerings and wound up getting white as a default

I like it fine but I just couldn’t believe all the other colors were so lame. And this is on a very popular vehicle

Plymouth Prowler concept dropped in 1993. Purple raged for a few years.

I remember going to work in the mid-1990s and it seemed like overnight all the women had traded in their cars for SUVs.

In addition to the Prowler, weren't the PT Cruisers mostly purple?

ETA NVM, those were later...

The color was known as Plum Crazy, the Plymouth and Dodge Muscle Cars!
Actually that craze started in the 70’s.

“ The Plum Crazy paint job was originally introduced in 1970, and is considered one of the most iconic hues from an iconic era of muscle cars. “

The world would be a better place if crossovers and "car SUV" never existed and minivans were required in their stead.

I was a machinist in my younger days, our shop built a number of race cars, boats and motorcycles.
Back in the early 70’s everyone wanted to go faster.
The style and speed, lots of money was dropped into the economy.

We had a VW Van, got the paint for Standard Motors on the Airline Hwy.
Painted it, the trim was white. The motor we had a great cam, shaved the flywheel, an a few other things.

Ford Flaresides had a God-awful pinkish-purple.

Move to trucks seems coincident with the shrinkage in cars and the move to more FWD. These couldn't tow or carry much so were less versatile.

In ‘95/‘96 I think Honda also did a special purplish color that sparkled and changed shades depending on the light.

Something like this.
