Born and raised in Lafayette but have job opportunity available to take in Baton Rouge. Would love to be able to commute every day but just can’t do it with time constraints. Anyone have pro and cons for each?

Don’t commute, brutal. Especially since it’s so much bridge time, one accident and you are screwed.

That is the most cursed stretch of interstate in the country.
Don't do it.
Don't do it.

I did my last year of college commuting because my wife got a job in Baton Rouge. Horrible. Just move to Baton Rouge and join the misery.

Coworker commuted from Mandeville to Baton Rouge for years. Said it was tough sometimes but he could handle it. Due to family circumstances, he had to move to Lafayette for 3 months and commute to Baton Rouge. Said it was the absolutely most miserable thing he’d ever had to do in his life and he’d never do it again for even a week.

Are you asking for pros/cons of working in BR and living in Lafayette vs living in BR? Or the pros/cons of living/working in BR vs living/working in Lafayette? You’ve already (rightfully so) admitted that commuting is not an option.

Laffy: 68-28
I'll let you work out the rest

I went the other way commuted from Mandeville to Lafayette. I did it because no one was hiring for shite and I needed the experience. As said already that stretch of interstate is fricking cursed. Can't even tell you how many times that some retard wrecked on the bridge. 2 lanes going in only one direction and they fricking find a way to have a horrible wreck. And it's always gonna be right when you get off work too.
Anyway since you already said you couldn't commute, don't fricking move to baton rouge man. Move to the outskirts or come get a piece of the Covington/Mandeville area while it's still relatively cheap

I know the commute will suck. Wanted to know if Baton Rouge really is as big of a dump as everyone says it is

I’ve been commuting for 25 plus years

There was a reason Kris Kristofferson and Bobby McGeee were busted flat in BR and trying to get on a train...

If it’s a good opportunity, go for it. You can go home on weekends if you want.

when the work starts on the I-10 lane expansion commuting will not be fun...

BR isn't as terrible as everyone makes it out to be. 99% of the crime you read about occurs in a handful of zipcodes, usually North BR or places you will never drive through. Living here isn't terrible unless you have a large family and a high paying job. You will need to sift through the trash public schools or pay for school, or hope they get into magnet schools.
As mentioned, the commute is cheeks. When the inevitable accident happens and I10 is shutdown, you are stuck and there's no escape plan. If this job is worth it, consider moving. I do know your specific circumstances but BR has decent options all around. Lots of people commute from Ascension or Livingston Parrish. That's really where why the traffic is bad on the interstate.
If you are single and no kids, you can find a lot of spots in downtown BR to live.

I worked with 2 people who commuted to BR from Laffy & Sunset 3 times a week and they said it sucked because of the traffic. We all ended up working from home during the Wu flu after shutting down ops in BR.

Move to New Roads or somewhere near 190. Take the old bridge into br. Take 190 to I-49 to visit your lafayette peeps. Hell, do anything other than live in br and deal with I-10.

I’ve lived in both.
Younger LSU student me was BR>Laff.
Older me that’s not in college is Laff>BR and it’s not even close.
Baton Rouge is full of traffic and not as good food.
Especially outside of LSU BR.
BR is full of necks, like the rest of the south.
Laff is unique. Neck free.
