In that situation, yes we should. We were at war, and the line between humans, and countries get drawn. We destroyed millions of Japanese to save thousands of American men. Every now and then throughout history you just have to go all in, and wipeout your opponent so bad, that their will to fight is gone.

Biggest mistake in history. No life is more important than another solely based on where they were born.

100% failure of politics

2 billion dollar project in 1940s money. That bomb was getting dropped no matter what.

Japan had no way to win the war at that point and an invasion on mainland Japan really wasn’t needed. Their people were all starving and America could have just kept fireboming them until the unconditional surrender inevitably came

The “use the bomb or we have to invade” scenario was just American propaganda because we really fricking wanted to use the bomb. Truman made the choice but he really didn’t have a choice.

Fun fact: nobody authorized dropping the bomb on Nagasaki and Truman was pissed when he found it we hit ‘em again

A big reason why no nuclear weapon has been used since WWII is because we showed the world what they could do. It was a necessary evil to prove mutual assured destruction. No doubt some stuff gets wiped out in the Cold War if we never use the bomb in WWII.

Another fun fact: After WW2, 24 more nuclear tests were conducted on Bikini atoll in the Marshall Islands.

You really have taken this shtick too far. It isn’t even laughable anymore.

At least that gave us those first few good seasons of spongebob squarepants.

My grandfather who was in the South Pacific theatre would tell you to frick off if he were still alive. The Japanese were ruthless and deserved every bad thing that came their way.

It was either bomb the shite out of them, or invade their island which would have caused even more casualties. Operation Downfall would have costed nearly one million lives of American soldiers

Trinity test occurred while Truman was at Potsdam conference (his first as President following FDR's death). Observers noted a clear change in his demeanor during the conference, especially towards Stalin. That change occurred after he was advised of the successful test.

methinks you struggle with math. those two bombs killed less than 100,000 japanese. if we would have had to invade Japan millions of Japanese soldiers and civilians could have died and we could have easily lost a million soldiers. AND, the USA fed the country and SAVED millions of Japenese.
