Any fixes to this? Golden retriever is pissing brown spots all over my back yard.

There are multiple threads on this.

The only solution I've found is to saturate the area right away with a garden hose.

The dog supplements and lawn treatments I've tried from Amazon have been worthless.

I have a Husky/GSD mix and his urine does not discolor grass. My son’s Goldens’ urine will turn grass tan in one day. Crazy how that works.

It grows back.

Is your dog older? Our lab did this in his latter years, likely when his kidneys were not performing as well. No issues with the lawn when he was young.

If you can train him to piss on only dallisgrass, I’ll buy him from you.

My theory (don’t know if it’s right)is that it’s due to the protein content of the dog food.
My dog I have now was on puppy chow and everywhere she peed it turned the grass brown.Close to a year old I changed her to adult food with lower protein content and it doesn’t happen anymore.

She’s a 3 year old golden retriever. I’ll start trying to water spots when I can.

Our dog does the same thing. I’ve just learned to live with it.

This is hilarious

My theory (don’t know if it’s right)is that it’s due to the protein content of the dog food.

Dog piss contains urea and salts. Urea is basically nitrogen, so too much of it on one concentrated spot will burn the lawn. You may have more luck if you have a male dog that sprays instead of a female that pisses all in one spot.

If you don’t fertilize your lawn and it’s lacking nitrogen, then the dog is also less likely to burn it. A third thing is if your dog drinks a lot of water, the urea and salt will be diluted enough to not burn the grass.

The dog treats that counteract this or claim that it’s the PH level are a waste of money. I’ve trained my dog to piss in one section of the lawn that’s out of sight and she absolutely nukes the place. I now just let the weeds take over to not have bare dirt.

With my dog, it was food. I had switched him from Pro Plan to Authority (Petsmart brand) to save a few bucks and he about destroyed the lawn.

I've found the ones that work for us are Diamond Naturals, 4Health (which is just Diamond Naturals) Pro Plan, and Kirkland. Just about anything else and he'll leave hot spots.

I'd get that dog to the vet. No reason any animal should be pissing brown spots.

At our previous home, we made a 6x6 area in the corner of the yard, filled it with smooth landscape rocks and trained our lab to just pee in there.
