the last several seasons have been forgettable even by Northwestern standards.

That’s how good Fitzgerald is as a coach though. Since ‘85 the Wildcats were 81-214-3 before Fitzgerald. They had three winning seasons and four bowl games before he became coach. And he was a player on two of those teams one of which went to the Rose Bowl and won the Big10.

Since becoming head coach he’s 110-101 with 10 bowl appearances.

Say what you want, but Fitzgerald is football royalty at Northwestern.

I'm not sure Cal has played this type of football at any point the last few decades.

Do you guys even watch football? Last FEW DECADES? They won the Pac-12 in 2008 and won a bowl game as recent as 2019. They aren't a powerhouse, but they are in a P5 conference and play a P5 schedule. They beat USC in 2021.

They aren't Alabama, but they do play major college football by definition.

ETA:

All of that to be said, it is a massive liberal cesspool that should be razed.

So a better win% than his last two years combined? Got it.

After a 6 month investigation, Fitzgerald gets a 2 week slap on the wrist in the middle of the summer. After the court of public opinion has a 3-day feeding frenzy he's gone. Same info, completely different result.

The president of NW seems to be struggling with the same problem that is afflicting MLB Rob Manfred. A delayed stricken conscience that seems to respond only to the court of public opinion. Jay Monahan, you're next. That moral high ground is getting to be one tricky place to be.

The NW president: “During the investigation, 11 current or former football student-athletes acknowledged that hazing has been ongoing within the football program,” Schill said. “... this has never been about one former student-athlete and his motives; this is much bigger than that."

The only thing that has changed is that the public is getting a good look at the evidence.

Do you even Cal bro?

there are way worse/liberal places like SUNY, Sarah Lawrence, Stony Brook, Oberlin, etc. than Cal-Berkley or Stanford.

i'll knock them for being crackpots all day but they're still respected research institutions with high academic achievements and D1 Sports.

5 of their 6 bowl wins came under PF. The other one was in 1948

For the majority of his tenure, they were a scrappy to good team. They won their shite division twice, that would be like Vandy winning a very down east. No one in the vandy AD would care how bad the rest of the division was if they were making it to ATL.

Had this not happened he was going to cruise until retirement at NW

The public wasn't trying to give him a slap on the wrist like Northwestern was.

This explains how some people only get a conscience when someone else is watching. The president should have a lot of explaining to do.

Pat Fitzgerald record with DC Mike Hankwitz: 96-67, 5 ranked finishes, 10 bowls, two B1G West titles

Pat Fitzgerald record without DC Mike Hankwitz: 14-34, zero bowl appearances, 7-27 B1G record

Are we sure that the fact he is coming off of 3-9 and 1-11 seasons has NOTHING to do with this?

Who’s to say this story wasn’t drastically exaggerated just to avoid a buy out?

NOTHING. He is the biggest athletics figure in the history of the school and they would've been fine if he was coach for another 30 years if he went to a bowl every few seasons.

They would've done that initially not give him a nothing two weeks off in July punishment.

They were trying to bury the story and give him a slap on the wrist, this doesn’t make sense
