For anyone with pre-k aged boys, you should 100% start them to school a year late. That is my biggest educational regret with my sons, and it’s difficult to undo later once they have friends. Boys on average are just emotionally behind their female peers, and that gap doesn’t close until their early/mid 20s.
I have a son in elementary whose math and spatial reasoning skills are in the gifted range, but his grades don’t reflect that because he’s too busy acting like a little dickhead in class. He will mature eventually, but I seriously doubt his high school GPA will reflect his true intelligence. The extra year of maturity would have made a difference.
This is a spin-off from the thread about girls going to college at much higher rates than boys. As others have said, the educational system really is stacked against boys and the way they learn. Give your sons the gift of time by starting them late. I wish I had made that choice with mine.

You could potentially do that as well although I don’t think all schools give you the choice if the kid is passing.

You are knocking a year off of his working career, and those later years are when people make the most money. If anything, you should start them early so they can become productive quicker. Kids don't mature fast because they are coddled through life until they get out on their own.

I started college at 17 years old. While very immature, there were no other problems.

Not sure what you are looking for from your story, but without knowing your story, nothing can really be said.

My initial thought was that you need to discipline these boys. This may/may not be right. Second thought was that there may be a million different potential issues involved in this scenario.

The proper response……good luck.

Just double down go all in...have the birth certificate changed ASAP after the needed medical expenses, insurance, check ups are done. Tell family the kid doesn't exist for 2 years. Dominate sports, Dominate everything

Which part? Anyone with young kids or anyone who remembers their teenage years can tell you that boys are immature compared to their female peers. Girls are not kicking boys’ asses in school because they are smarter. They have the emotional regulation needed to do the work at an earlier age.

Really depends on when they were born, in my opinion. If your boy was born in July or August, I would definitely consider holding back. Otherwise, no. Want to pay for another year of pre K? Forcing it doesn’t necessarily change anything. A lot of this comes down to the kid himself and parenting. Whether he’s a little shite in 2nd or 3rd grade, he’s still a little shite.

Discipline more and take away the devices. Problem solved.

Public skools are a joke any ways. We pulled our kids out too years ago and homeskool them. They are getting a much better education away from all of the riprap.

This is total BS. My son was 17 when he graduated HS but he had a 4.0. He was on 2 state championship football teams and would have been on 3 if I started him a year later. But he’s fine.

Maybe your kid is slow or immature. But you shouldn’t tell everyone else to hold their kids back.

everything you said, you as the parent need to help and nurture the kid, the kid needs to play the cards he's dealt with, yep, girls get a quick start out of the blocks but boys catch up pretty quickly and learning/adapting is part of the process of growing up

Terrible advice. Start your kids at the same age as all of the other kids. Don’t let your kid be the weirdo that’s a year older than everyone else

If it’s all parenting, then why is it that the boys are the ones getting in trouble at much higher rates? I’m not saying that parenting doesn’t make a difference, but it seems obvious to me that boys are immature relative to girls. Anyone who has spent time around young kids in a classroom setting can tell you that.
