re: Dame asked for a trade

I don’t see the numbers working for Miami unless they send out an insane amount of money, as in Lowry and Robinson, plus possibly more.
Lowry is decent as a salary dump for someone. Robinson? Less so. He has rehabbed his image a bit but is still overpaid.

I just saw them pushing the Spurs as a destination, pairing with Wembenyama. They do have a lot of picks and some young pieces they can send over. It'd piss off Lillard. I'm not sure if it's a valid choice or if the Spurs really have an interest..

Tried to play around in the trade machine to see if we can get him, and no way we could without giving up BI, CJ, or Zion, and honestly not sure I would give one of them up for Dame at this stage.
Yeah we gotta keep Zion to make sure Ochsner has something to do.

He won't want to come here so he won't be traded here
Certainly could be posturing to get a bigger return from Miami, I but I'd love to nothing more than to be wrong on this one and see a team finally do what's best for themselves and not send a star player only to the team he wants to go to.
It would kinda suck that Dame is where the line was drawn while unloyal dudes like KD and Harden keep getting to wherever they want to go but that's a small price to pay imo for teams to start dictating these situations.

Considering Miami has jack shite to offer and Dame did this AFTER the team gave Grant a questionable contract based on Dame returning, I don’t have a problem with this.
Dame should have asked out before the draft, which would have potentially allowed the Blazers to get additional pieces they wanted as well as Miami having additional pieces like Oladipo they could move instead of just Lowry and Robinson.

Could we offer CJ and a bunch of picks?

But so far, it sounds like Portland wants more of a legit good player back so doubtful.
Plus the tax ramifications on our end make it a no go.

Herb couldn’t go before about November of January due to a new contract.
And honestly I think the idea of adding Dame to Zion and BI, from an injury perspective, is as dumb as the Nets putting Kyrie, Durant, and Harden together.

While that is idealistic and would be nice to see, the problem is the team trading for Dame.
If I'm trading for a player that is going to cost me a ton of assets and cap space, I'm going to make damn sure he wants to play for my team first. Nothing worse than getting a player that will become a locker room cancer since he doesn't want to be there.

That’s the frame of mind that has the nba in this shite position to deal with. Nobody has a spine.
Dame is on a 5 year deal. He needs to grow up.
These frickin asshats trying to get themselves to one specific destination by issuing threats to attempt to dilute their trade market is trash and it needs to end.
It keeps working, so these players keep doing it. The owners need to put a foot down eventually. You can’t let the inmates continue to run the asylum. It’s ultimately really bad business for 85% of the teams in this league and it leads to a severe competitive imbalance that can only be countered by drafting Giannis at 15 or Jokic at 42.

The easiest solution is to withhold pay for any star who refuses to play or pouts about not going to his big market preferred destination.
And then ban the agents who facilitate this shite.
I also think there should be a way to write into contracts clauses that reduce salary by 40-50 percent should a player request a trade.
Lastly, maybe there should be a cap on the number of max players a team can trade for in a given time period.
Like teams, cough cough, the Lakers, can only trade for a max player every five years.
Blew your wad already too bad. That would severely shrink the trade destination market and take the power away from big markets.

Imagine downvoting this
frick Dame. Perfectly willing to sign the max contract but then tries to force out afterwards.

I like it. The status quo is unacceptable.
You really don’t see this shite in other leagues. Why do these nba guys think the world should revolve around them?
This ain’t the same as making $100k a year and picking where you work for happiness and advancement purposes. Some of these dudes are making $60M a year.
You really shouldn’t get to sign a 5 year max extension and then pull this shite a summer later.
And I get he wants to win and that he’s been more loyal than the typical player. But this is toxic as shite. And if it keeps happening, it’s ultimately not good for most of the franchises in the nba.

One other solution. If you trade for a max player whose team doesn’t want to trade, you forfeit your next three firsts even if you don’t have any the next few years.
They go into the NBA “pot” and can be distributed to teams who get fricked by both made stars. Would kind of be like the compensatory system in the NFL.
Portland gets hosed on a Dame trade? Fine they automatically get a top 5 pick in the next draft and Miami loses its next three firsts.

The problem isn't in threats and demands. The problem is in the players behavior in their new locker room and disrupting the organization.
They can "behave" enough to not be subject to fines, but just generally not getting along with anyone in the organization and just going through the motions is enough to disrupt what you are trying to build, especially if that player is your star player.
You NEED the buy in from your star player. This is why it keeps working when they say they don't want to go somewhere.
Why give up all of those assets and salary to someone who doesn't want to be a part of what you are trying to build? It's better to find players that will buy in.

One thing i can guarantee you, as long as he’s sent to a team that has another star or two Dame would be happy and wouldn’t cause any issues.
We have CJ (one of his beat friends) and Zion (one of the main guys he was trying to get Portland to get) here, we would be his best chance he’s ever had at a championship, and wouldn’t have to deplete ourselves of assets to get him.

you can write that but who signs it?

Yes if he goes to a place he feels he can win he'll get over not going where he wants.
But it won't be here.

And the players would never agree to it without something insane in return, something the league is not willing to give up.
