OK Thanks now I'm recalibrating my expectations.
It's only 2 hours out of your life. Go ahead and watch it, and then give me an honest assessment.
I'm pretty confident that if you're over 16 years old, and have an IQ over 50, you're going to agree that it's one of the cheesiest, most cliched riddled movies that you'll ever see, and that's not even taking into consideration the absolutely PISS POOR acting you'll be subjected to for 2 hours.
Just my opinion, go see it, and then get back with me

The mission is a Star Wars re hash, thought that was pretty sweet and it was well done.

Watched it for the second time. Still good. Holds up well. I need to go back and watch the original again

Listen you Maverick-loving snowflakes (10 times - Jesus), your tear-jerker, chick-flick, pseudomilitary, holy grail of a movie was cute and pretty entertaining for a few hours. Really, it was.
Not everyone is going to watch this cheese-fest over and over again. It certainly wasn't Schindler's List, Platoon, Apocalypse Now, Dunkirk, Saving Private Ryan, Das Boot, The Pianist, Zero Dark Thirty, Blackhawk Down, Letters from Iwo Jima/Flags of our Fathers, Full Metal Jacket, etc. Many would consider these great, classic movies. Maybe even the Maverick fanboys too, lol.
I'm not some anti-Cruise guy either. I think his Mission series is fantastic for fun and awe as well as plenty of his other movies like Minority Report, War of the Worlds, Rain Man, A Few Good Men, Interview witha Vampire, American Made, The Color of Money, etc.
Sorry to rain on ya'lls Top Gun parade.

I haven't watched it yet. I purposely haven't watched any trailers or commercials either but I have it recorded so hopefully this weekend I finally get to see it.
Unless you’re watching it at a theater you ain’t missing much. Watching it at home isn’t going to give you the same experience as watching it in a theater.

It’s a great movie, but it’s really missing the homoerotic tensions of the first film…
I saw the original more times than I can remember, but I must have missed the homoerotic tension scenes.

I liked the movie and thought it was OK. I think Hangmans character was overly arrogant, overbearing, cheesy and cringe and a few times they hit too hard to tie in past references on a few things but overall I enjoyed it.
Had to look up Penny during the movie to see where she fit in from the past. Jennifer Connelly is still SMOKING HOT. See obligatory pic.
When you said cheesy I was hoping that its not as cheesy as Iron Eagle. I watched that movie once and could never make myself watch it again.
Iron Eagle still corners the market on Cheese.

I’ve seen it a few times, it works. Yes it’s cheesy but it stays true to its 1980’a ethos.
One thing that was impressive:
Except for one joke sequence of two pilots ribbing each other “Hey Phoenix I hear he called you a man” - “At least he didn’t call you a man” gender/race wasn’t a topic.
Phoenix doesn’t break from the plot into a 5 minute speech about gender pay gaps, Coyote doesn’t talk about how hard it was being black at the naval academy, etc. They just let a cast of characters be pilots with their own personalities - and that’s it.

I dont think it was actually 10, maybe 5 or 6.
I was kind of hammered when I made the thread.

I missed it in theaters and I realize that is a huge part of the viewing enjoyment of the film...and this is coming from someone who grew up enjoying the original....it wasnt a good movie imo. The plot was stupid as shite and I cringed every time any actor opened his/her mouth. The flying and action sequences were fun to watch but that was it. I couldn't even enjoy it as a guilty pleasure.

I've watched these fighter pilots critique the movie multiple times while hammered.
