There’s a reason why worldwide, NYC is considered the “Greatest City on Earth”

No one says that about Atlanta, Charlotte, Nashville, New Orleans, Birmingham and they sure as hell don’t say it about Baton Rouge

That’s all that needs to be said

I’d break the mid-Atlantic and New England into two separate groups

Those places have way more amenities than Louisiana would ever dream of having. The problem is that there’s a consumerist culture in the NE states that values materialism. Since that region is insanely wealthy, luxury designer stores are all over where people will spend $1,000 for a pair of shoes.

NYC and Boston combined have more wealth than several developing countries do. You’ve clearly never been up there to see what it’s like

Statistically speaking, women from Boston are likely to be fit, be college educated, and have a high-earning job. Women from Louisiana are, well, the exact opposite of that

Not sure why this board tends to bash places for no reason

I assume they just don’t know. I always laugh at people who talk about San Francisco being a dump. They clearly have not been there.

You shouldn’t. I grew up there. My first 26 years. I was there visiting family last week. It is a shell of the city it used to be. It is a dump now. In fact, I am laughing at your ignorance.

My daddy always says the farther you get from south Louisiana, the worse the food gets and the uglier the women get.

I've lived in Forest Hills for about 4 years, and I couldn't do it anymore mid-pandemic. Yeah the upper class lives great, but for those making 150kish, it's less comfortable. Hell, city and state income tax combined is 10%...and you want to talk rent? You must still be young and live with 3 other roommates or you're paying $4k/mo. minimum for a good RENTAL...and good luck with property taxes if you ever get out of that hole

BTW, coming from someone who's lived and worked in 3 different countries by age 30, I heavily disagree on the "greatest city in the world". That kool aid you've been snorting has gone straight to your brain.

Everyone has their own opinion on that topic

It’s worth noting that my opinion about nyc being the greatest is WIDELY held by people in and outside of nyc

I was born in Mountainside NJ, with parents from NY. They transferred to LA and never looked back. I think the greatest city on earth claim is living on the past. It’s a city worth getting a taste of then moving on. There are plenty of cities like NY used to be now. Maybe not Birmingham or present day NO, but lots. In part because people copied it, in part because other cities became more populous and grew culturally. NY is really nothing more than an expensive place that is densely populated.

And for the record, no one has called NY the greatest city on earth since Crocodile Dundee. It has largely been erased from people’s consciousness unless they watch 90s sitcoms.
