Is there no penalty for insurance companies who send out bogus quotes for home insurance policy?
I received a home owners policy quote from Allstate in the mail that showed numbers way below what I was currently paying. (i know i know...red flag) I get that the quote was based off public records, but all of what was quoted was pretty spot on accurate for what was currently under coverage. So, naturally, I called and asked if the quote was real and the woman tells me its just a flier they send out to get people to call in and the numbers may not be reflective of the real quote....how is that legal?
So anyway, I go through with getting the "real" quote and no surprise its not even close to the bogus flier "quote"

I hate to give you this bad news but most every solicitation you get in the mail works the same way
Directv, Dish, car dealers, internet providers, cell phone service, gutter guards, windows.................

ehh maybe so, but I've actually received a quote from rocket mortgage for a refinance that was actually valid. Called them up and the dude said the rate was valid and i could refinance right then and there. I ended up calling my original lender to see if they would match/compete and they did so it worked that time. Unfortunately it didnt work this time.

I did as well and it saved me $1,000 a year. So in my case, it was not bogus.

What were the exact words on the paper? Or better yet, do you have an image of the document?

“Recent weather related claims and changes to insurance laws in Louisiana have caused insurance carriers to make drastic changes to current homeowners’ policies. Because your policy may be renewing, now is the perfect time to review it, if you haven’t recently. We have prepared a personalized quote below and invite you to compare our quote of $2,143.67 per year to your current homeowners policy. This quote is based upon public parish records.”
Then goes on to list all of what’s covered…which was almost spot on compared to what my current policy covers. And actually my current policy is covering less than what’s on this phony quote.

When All State sent me that in the mail, I brought it to my State Farm agent. I told her I needed her to reduce my premium or I was leaving.
She asked me to leave it with her and give her a couple of days so she could talk to her general manager. They knocked off $250 from my annual premium.

I have the same flier from Allstate sitting on my desk to call. It was showing proposed rates that were 50-60% cheaper AND I SHOP INSURANCE ANNUALLY.
I know it's probably BS, but I had the same response.... WTF?

don't you hate when you open something up thinking you'll get one thing only to be deceived?
