Hurd is going to start. Skenes comes into close out like Coleman did in 2009.

But travel and HS coaches ruining arms while they’re still developing means we can’t throw an absolute man in the national title game

If your plan is to play Skenes at all, then it has to be a start IMO.

He is a starter. Starters have a routine. He has not come out in relief all year. Let him do his routine and get warm...

Score a lot of runs early for him so we can go to Hurd with a comfy lead.

Hurd has done well in relief.

You can't let your best pitcher wait in the bullpen just in case you need him.

You run that horse out there and you challenge Florida to beat your best.

Every single pitcher on this team outside of Skenes has been shown to be mortal.

If Florida makes him look mortal then good for them, that means they truly earned it

Need to stick to routine they are used to. Skenes a starter and has not come in as reliever all year. Skenes - Hurd - Cooper

That makes no sense. Skenes hasn’t come on in relief all year. Let him go through his normal routine and start.

This isn't going to be a normal routine for Skenes anyway. Jay is going to have a plan whatever that may be I trust that it will be best for the team.

I don't have a huge preference one way or another. If he starts then we can hopefully get a good 3-4 innings and have a good start to the ballgame.

He was a closer at Air Force before. It isn't some foreign thing to him and he is extremely mentally strong. He won't let a routine mess with him that much.

That said, this won't be a normal situation out the bullpen. He will likely have 1 role and that be to pitch the 7-9. So he can still prepare and go through his routine as if he is starting knowing the end of the game is his. Just have to hope that you actually get to that point.

Even if Skenes threw 80 percent effort and sat 95-97, he is your best option

Skenes: 4-5 innings
Hurd: 3-4 innings
Coop: 1-2 innings

Plus we have the shadows working in our favor today.

Skenes will be fine and ready. Last year he would catch when he wasn’t pitching. So while he wasn’t throwing 120 pitches, he wasn’t really getting any real rest.

Skenes is a grown man = and I suppose he has access to the best medical and conditioning and financial advice known to mankind.

IF he wants to start, AND has shown to have consulted his expert advisors, then there is no choice about it - I dont see the mere manager of a college baseball team making those kinds of decisions - IF the manager thinks it is best for the team - then it is Skene's decision and his alone.

I am willing to sit back and go with whatever comes out of that. I would love to see Skenes get an appearance of some sort - hell - I hope he STARTs and throws a no-hiitter!!!

But I would not be in favor of giving him a 'final out' appearance because I think whatever pitcher got us that far in this game would deserve that honor.

Hoping for Skenes start
