I'm in search of the best housemade eggrolls available.

New orleans, Lafayette, hell, I don't care.

My absoute favorite was Fong's in baton rouge before they closed down. Chicken, shrimp, roasted pork, celery, sprouts.

They were the best I've ever had.

Every eggroll I know of, is either pre-made and fried from a box, or full of too much cabbage.

I'm hitting up a few places in NOLA for lunch today, including miss shirley's

While we're on topic, all of the old guys are dying off or retiring, and being replaced with picture menu cheap chinese shops.

Any old places still serving good quality old school chinese around?

Please gimme the good stuff!

My favorite egg rolls are Vietnamese…specifically the Pho Bang ones in East New Orleans.

Was going to say that Ba Chi Canteen has some fantastic egg rolls as well.

The only egg rolls I eat in the Nola area are at China Doll on Manhattan.

They are full of pork and shrimp and one is like a meal.

It’s a solid meat mixture inside. Wrap in that lettuce and dip in fish sauce.

Kim Son in Gretna used to throw the frick down. And I previously lived in Boston Chinatown. Kim son could hang with those places

Sadly owner caught cancer and they closed in I believe 18

I probably shouldn’t be putting this out there on the internet, but ever since covid, I have been under the suspicion that all Chinese restaurants have started using those Pagoda egg rolls from the grocery. Not a joke. They’re all very peppery and celery-forward now. Pretty sure China Dragon even sent me the packet s&s sauce one time. If I go missing, tell my story.

Chinese Inn mid 1970s to early 1990s, Fla Blvd near Alamo Plaza, and later on Airline Hwy, under MK Wong’s ownership had huge housemade loaded Egg Rolls fried to perfection, and also a fabulous twice fried dark Pork Fried Rice..great Peking Duck, Kung Pao, huge menu,etc..

That was on par with much of the best of Grant St Chinatown SF, NYC, Port, Sea, Vanc, LV, etc..

Much like Five Happiness in Nawlins, it had a helluva run for some decades, always packed, and did monster takeout biz of huge orders.

Once his top chef retired back to Chinatown Bellaire Houston, as MK was aging out, and his kids didn’t want to carry on in the restaurant biz..

‘‘Twas over.
