shot in the dark here
we will be in marblemount 7/9- 11 (on the way to olympic NP). coming in from the east on hwy 20 thru winthrop.

so day 1 is arrival day i was thinking of stopping and hiking the blue lake trail and/or rainy lake trail en route. we will pass thru the park & ross lake area on the way to marblemount

i have one full day on 7/10 to see what we can see. the plan was to do an all day hike at cascade pass, but the road is still closed.

anyone been to the park/area before that can recommend cool shite to do/see that day? hang at ross lake?

Went last fall to Diablo since I had never been off 20 when I lived there. There's a bunch of hikes around there, use the WTA site to see some recent reviews of what's open WTA. I think the hike I did was Thunder Knob LINK, decent views and not too intense at 3.6 miles roundtrip. Did this one on a date, it was her first time wearing those hiking boots so she got blisters on the way up, memorable date

There's a bunch of road turnoffs to see the dams and viewpoints along 20, but not much as far as shopping/dining/etc. I'm sure someone will come here with a better suggestion. Have fun

I stayed in marble mount a couple summers ago at some little hole in the wall hotel in town. We enjoyed white water rafting on the Sauk river with Triad tours. You should look into it. It can be as intense or as chill as you want depending on which you choose. Cascades is beautiful and criminally underrated. Lake Diablo is awesome.

Literally just booked a trip there the week of 7/24 so curious to see what this brings too. Wanted to swing Olympic and maybe Rainier into the trip but couldn't get campsites locked in and the rental car was brutal price.

Perhaps not that easy logistically, but I have always wanted to hike from Rainy Pass SOUTH to Stehekin. It can be done in one day and is actually net downhill. Then take the float plane from Stehekin back to Seattle.

I did North Cascades a few years ago.

My favorite hike was the Maple Pass Loop, followed by Cascade Pass. Also plenty of good spots along the road for easy pullouts - Diablo Lake overlook, Washington Pass, etc. Some nice state parks too.

I think my favorite area was Artist Point up on Mt. Baker. There are just stunning views everywhere you look up there and plenty of easy trails to explore after the car does all of the hard work getting you up there. It can be a bit out of the way if you aren't staying in Bellingham or nearby but worth the detour imo.

North Cascades is supposed to be incredible, I’ll be checking out Olympic Nat’l Park before the Dead & Co. run.
Check out the Enchantments if you have the time. Aasgard Pass is a BIG hike but well worth it

Lived on Whidbey Island for 3 years, been in Spokane for 4. North Cascades is the best. Artist Point road just opened up last week.

If you go to Rainy Pass, the north parking lot leads to Cutthroat Pass and further is Granite Pass. Absolutely beautiful. Granite Pass, out and back, would be tough in one day. Doable but difficult.

Thunder Creek leads up to Ruby Mountain, but I was stalked by a cougar (the feline kind) at 4th of July Pass a few years ago.

All of the above are great suggestions depending on your experience/endurance. Hidden Lake, Lookout Mountain, Goat Lake (not in Cascades), Easy Pass…all good option. Can’t go wrong in that park, just know your capabilities.

Does anybody have any good recommendations on the west side of the park? Highway 20 is closed at Newhalem so that’s really limiting my options. I think right now the only two accessible that others have mentioned are the Cascade Pass trail and the Hidden lake lookout.
