OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush, who went missing aboard his Titan submersible vessel along with four other passengers on Sunday, told an interviewer he didn't want to hire a bunch of "50-year-old white guys" like other submarine companies because he wanted his team to be "inspirational."

Former OceanGate director of marine operations David Lochridge -- one of those "50-year-old white guys" Rush wanted to avoid hiring for not being "inspirational" enough -- was fired by Rush in 2018 after he reportedly blew the whistle on OceanGate by raising safety concerns over their first-of-a-kind carbon fiber hull and other systems.

Hopefully they had a copy of this while being inspirational in that tin can...

What about people like himself…60 year old white guys?

He created his own inspirational iceberg without a 50 yr old white dudes help. That’s crushing.

I hope his diversity was of comfort to him as the sub imploded.

I would like to hear how Stockton feels about 50 year old white guys who know shite about submersibles now?

Surely you don’t need white guys to suggest putting a tether on that little pill box before you drop it into the great abyss.

We can train someone to pilot the sub, we use a game controller so anybody can drive the sub."
Rush's Titan sub went missing on June 18th while descending to the Titanic wreck site off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada in the Atlantic Ocean and has not been heard from since.
From the article, maybe encouraging “anybody” to drive the sub wasn’t the best idea.

They paid $250K for a Titanic experience. A Titanic experience is exactly what they got.

Very interesting development if true.

Wait...why is this anchored? Is it fake news?

"You know, at some point, safety just is pure waste," said Rush. "I mean, if you just want to be safe, don't get out of bed. Don't get in your car. Don't do anything. At some point, you're going to take some risk, and it really is a risk/reward question. I think I can do this just as safely by breaking the rules."
In the year he left UC Berkeley, he personally built a Glasair III experimental aircraft

Looks like 3 of the 5 aboard were 50 year old white dudes so he may have had a point....might shoulda tried to diversify a bit and coulda used someone with some sense who woulda said "y'all going to do what???"....instead they had 3 50 year old white dudes and an older and younger Pakistani dude...all like minded individuals who had done a bunch of dangerous shite in order to prevent being bored because their wealth allowed them to live without a care in the world. They certainly weren't a diverse group economically...they weren't diverse in age, only 2 were less than 50 years old and one of those was 49. I would bet a coca cola that the entire operation was staffed by adventure seekers who were more risk tolerant than the average person...a little diversity couldn't have hurt anything.
