but let's not forget that he has the golden prize in a healthy arm.

There is no way in HELL he should pitch before Thursday (and that is pushing it) and that is it for him in college unless weather becomes an issue.

Plus, LSU doesn't need to send a negative message to prospective players other than we can help them get to the big leagues.

I know this is an unpopular opinion and I want LSU to win it all too, but not at the expense of a young man's health and dream.

ETA: Book Mark this post for when the former MLB players/announcers agree. If I'm wrong, I'll gladly eat crow. Especially if we hoist the trophy.

you don't have the medical skill set to make that call or the expertise

let Jay make that call and know your role

I think the most he'll be used is relief on Thursday if we get that far but it wouldn't shock me to see him on the mound for at least starting and a few innings. Maybe a tight pitch count of like 60.

He's a big strong dude who doesn't have much wear on his arm. He probably can be full strength on 4 days rest but I agree they're not going to want to risk his career. Skenes might will himself into doing it though and not care because the dude is a warrior.

MLB pitch on 5 day rotations. There is talk of the pirates activating him pretty quickly this year if they stay in the hunt. Thursday is 5 days. Doubt it would be an issue for him.

If we get to Thursday he’s starting. I don’t think that’s really up for debate

If Skenes pitches on Thursday is basically just an MLB starter schedule. And then again on Monday would just be one less day rest for an MLB starter. They do that just about every year in the World Series. He will be fine

It worked out OK for Louis Coleman and he has a national championship ring to show for it. He came in relief twice in addition to 2 CWS starts in 2009.

If he throws Thursday that’s normal rest for a MLB pitcher I knows he’s not that yet but it’s not something crazy because he’ll be doing it next year plus he hasn’t been over used this year he could go out Thursday and get you 6 innings 80 pitches

LSU has to win 2 games no matter what to make it to the championship series anyway. He’ll pitch Thursday instead of tomorrow for reasons you stated but also because it makes no difference if he gets us a win tomorrow or Thursday. He would be able to go deeper if he pitches Thursday anyway than if he pitched on extremely short rest tomorrow

They've been trying to get away from it some but 4 days rest was always the MLB standard for the 5 man starting rotation. It's not negligent to start Skenes on Thursday for a full start on 4 days rest.

Regardless, I would love to see JJ announce tomorrow that he is starting him on Thursday. Put it in the head of WF they will be facing him in an elimination game if they blow it tomorrow.

Then again, the whole world knows he is starting on Thursday.

Dude, he’s a 6’6”, 250 lb athlete. He’s not a porcelain doll.

He’ll be fine, whatever he decides.

If he is the sure fire major league pitcher as most think, he'll be pitching on 4 days rest most starts - so may as well start Thursday - so I don't consider that pushing it.

He’s about to go to the MLB. They pitch every 4-5 days. If LSU wins today, he’ll start Thursday on 4 days rest and LSU will be playing on Saturday.
