To all the Sub guys out there. Can the Navy get a DSRV on scene before the 72hr clock runs out.

Not much technical data on their web site. The CBS news video posted earlier mentioned the owner (?) stating the sub was not certified by any regulatory agency such as ABS, Lloyds or DNV.
The sub was reportedly navigated to location from the surface ship using USBL acoustics, aided perhaps by Inertial Nav on the sub itself. The brief footage of this indicated a Sonardyne USBL system in use. For professionals a relatively easy navigation task using an excellent system they have onboard the sub and support vessel.
The Titanic site is very quiet acoustically, about 45 db background acoustic noise. USBL acoustic tracking would be robust and trivial. For comparison, the Gulf of Mexico “averages” 70 to 80 db, logarithmic, mainly from all the O&G and concentrated ship activity. Halfway to Mexico from say Venice it becomes quieter.
This is all interesting, thanks.

If they’ve lost USBL tracking and voice and text comms, my guess is they’ve lost the sub. There’s no rescue assets nearby I’m aware of that could arrive within the 96 hour life support window, if stranded on bottom.
Good points, and yikes, not a good outlook for them.

What would the human body look like being exposed to that? Squished to tiny blob and consolidated matter? That is insane pressure.
Google the Byford Dolphin Accident.
Be warned......NSF....well....anywhere.

These guys are on the way.
Well, 2 of them are. 1 can’t leave the state of Utah.

What’s the rescue plan in case something goes wrong with the sub?
Die. That's the plan.
If it lost pressure that would be a very quick death.

I’ve always said that if I won the lottery that I would take a big life insurance policy out on myself, wait 5 years and then take a trip down there. I understand it’s dumb and dangerous but I’ve wanted to do it since I was a kid.
However, now that I have a family it’s not something I would do.
Plus now they have the photo scan they just released where you’ll eventually be able to digitally project the wreckage at a large enough site to walk around it like you’re actually there looking at it. No danger involved.
The people that run these private expositions are assholes too. They will land the sub on the wreckage sight causing further damage. There are a few people who paid to go down there, have the sub landed on the deck and got married.
If the sub imploded then the passengers never knew what happened and their bodies are essentially just jelly at that depth. There would be nothing left. I hope they are found and rescued though

In a word, no. The main Navy DSRV is staged in San Diego. I’m not sure if there’s one on the East Coast.
Regardless, not enough time to arrive and get on bottom.

New business idea: $250K tours to the site of the submarine for people that paid $125K to see the Titanic.
We'll catch the Titanic before we go back.

Among those taking part in the expedition is billionaire Hamish Harding, CEO of Action Aviation in Dubai. He excitedly posted to social media about being there. His IG post about it
This guys sucks at social media. He hasn’t even posted any updates.

Yeah with VR approaching it’s just not worth it. In 10 years you will be able to hang out with Jack for a grand tour.

I can’t imagine willingly getting in one of those tiny subs to go look at a coral reef 100 ft down let alone go see the titanic.
I did the coral reef thing in Grand Cayman a few years ago. It was pretty cool. I think we stopped at 125 feet.

I hate to see this happen.
If the worst case is indeed true, they never knew or felt what happened.

Oceaneering might have a deep ROV already on a vessel that could be quickly mobilized. They have a regional office in Newfoundland and appear to have a office in Halifax.
