You need antibiotics. I've had Diver 3x and am just getting over the latest bout. The only way it's ever cleared up is thru Cipro.

Recent medical studies show otherwise. No statistical difference in uncomplicated diverticulitis outcomes in patients treated with antibiotics versus no antibiotics.

This does not equate. You need cipro/flagyl

I had several episodes over a few years and finally had surgery, removed about a foot of my colon.
I had irritable bowel syndrome for years, alternated diarrhea and constipation,no regularity at all.
Since then I’ve not had the IBS,regular as a clock.
The surgery was no fun but it was worth it.

I've had DVT for over 10 years. Finally had to have colon re-section surgery last Oct. The pain was getting unbearable and I was only another attack away from it being super serious. Recovery from the surgery took an extra couple of weeks due to an infection, but I'm all good now and praise God I didn't end up with a shite bag!

I've heard it's really shitty

My father had it. He was stubborn and hated going to the Dr. He let his go untreated until he had 100% blockage and could no longer ignore it. When he finally went to the hospital they did emergency surgery and had to remove a large portion of his colon. He woke up with a colotomy bag that was only supposed to be on for 6 months. He waited 6 years before he got the reversal.

Dealing with it for 14 years brother.
Clean diet, no hard seeds (yes it still is a guidance), limit red meats, NO NSAIDs, and stay away from non-dairy creamers and food items with emulsifiers. The last thing is a newly discovered thing for me.
Oh. And cut back on refined sugars.
I also take VSL #3 probiotic. GI recommended it.

Cipro and Flagyl are old news and way too strong.
Augmentin 875 is all that is needed……if antibiotics are called for at all.

I am currently at home recovering from surgery where they took about 10” of colon out. Back in Feb, brought myself to the hospital thinking it might be appendicitis. Diagnosed with DVT with a preforation. I’m 60 so I am not bouncing back from this surgery as quick as I thought I would. I stayed in the hospital for 4 days in Feb and was just treated with antibiotics

My buddy had to get part of his large intestine removed
Yeah, it can be really bad or fairly mild. I had it once, my normal doc gave me antibiotics and it cleared up within a week. Told me I might want to avoid foods with tiny seeds if it wound up happening more. That was my only time though.
Had a cousin who had parts of his intestines removed, almost died from it.

See a doctor and stay on top of it.
100% correct. Stay in top of it. Almost killed my pops a couple years ago. He had a rupture and was going septic. Numerous attempts with different antibiotics, and finally the last one fought the infection and cleared him up.

That sounds rough, I hope you start feeling yourself soon.
Side note- the canon ball in my stomach is gone, now I can just kinda feel where it was. I think I'll be back to 100% by tomorrow. This bout was easier than the last, and a lot less painful.

I knew I have Diverticulosis from my colonoscopy

No antibiotics prescribed
About 3 weeks ago I had the same issue. Severe abdomnal pain. Doctor immediately sends me for a CT scan. Prescribes antibiotics.
Results come back that I have a touch of Diverticulitis and this strange medical problem.
Epiploic Appendagitis
Epiploic appendagitis is a rare entity causing acute abdominal pain, due to a benign, self-limited inflammation of the epiploic appendages.
Epiploic appendagitis is a clinical mimicker of other acute abdomen causes, including acute diverticulitis and appendicitis.
Imaging features of epiploic appendagitis include fat-density ovoid lesion, “hyperattenuating ring sign,” mild bowel wall thickening, and “central dot sign.”

I had a urologist involved with my surgery. Pre op I discussed with him about a situation I had ongoing with above normal urinary frequency throughout the night( maybe not emptying out my bladder completely). Was taking something(Flomax I think) for a few days post op in the hospital. Was not given anything for at home. Now 6 days after being home I have blood in my urine??

Yeah, can't really do that.
Also, it was uncomplicated diverticulitis, so I think that's why no AB.

Interesting. I have Eosinophilic esophagitis, but it's not related.

Had a number of bouts of diverticulitis between 2016 and 2020, including one that prevented me from drinking at the national title game in 2020. Finally consulted a surgeon who told me part of my colon was coming out, the question was whether I was going to schedule the surgery or show up in an ambulance. During this time, I started to develop severe back pain as well. Had 11 inches of my colon removed and my back pain is now gone. In post op, doc said the colon had inflamed to the point of irritating the nerves around my lower spine. If anyone is having diverticulitis and developing back pain that won’t recede, they’re prolly connected.

No antibiotics prescribed, but when will feeling that I'm carrying a 10 pound rock in my gut subside? I'm hoping to have some fun this holiday weekend.

I just spent 5 days in the hospital with it. They drained the infection and I was lucky not to end up with an ostomy bag.
Gettin a chunk of my colon removed in 6 weeks.
Worst pain I’ve ever experienced. I had a bout with it 10 years ago but it wasn’t perforated and went away. Not so lucky this time.
Despite what many doctors say, the experts agree diet has nothing to do with it. You and I are just “blessed” I guess.
