Should airlines charge by the pound?

Seamus Coughlin just brought up the idea on TimCast.
Seems like the most fair way to price airline travel.

Yes, but add the luggage too.

I could see the discussions now of people fasting/cutting before a flight.

No they should charge by the seat, but if you’re a fat frick you should have to purchase 2 or more seats

Yeah that wouldn’t further trigger people with eating disorders or anything…

If they did I would save money

Yep. The entire weight of the passenger and luggage by the pound.
After all, weight is the primary cost of air travel.

Yes, all weight you bring to the plane should matter. Luggage and body.

I’m 195 so it would be about the same for me.

The cost of Healthcare in this country triggers me and a lot of those costs are accrued by stupid fat Americans.

Carbon fiber flight clothes might become a thing.

Said this for years. You and your luggage should be weighed together

Good. Maybe switching to Marlboro Lights and Diet Coke will save them a couple dollars when they fly in 2025, if the chemo can get them down to a normal weight.

This is small potatoes even group health should be price tiered based on BMI or the option of BF for the OTers that think they are Aaron Donald.
I watch one of my partners with a BMI over 40 stuff his face at lunch with 3,000 calories and then run outside the restaurant to suck down a Marlboro Red to tide him over until we get back to the office and outside the small non-tobacco discount we pay the same thing for health coverage. I will gladly pay extra to cover other peoples weight issues on planes if I can get some choice-based "fairness" in my health insurance.
Where is Mingo when you need him?

Yep, stand on a scale with all your luggage get charged like that

Although I like the fundamental fairness of basic idea--charge more for those who use more--it probably needs to be based more on some combination of width and height; if you're too wide or too tall to fit in regular seats / the regular seat-pitch, then you need a wider seat (or two seats) or a seat with more legroom--and you should be charged accordingly. Relative to commercial flights on decent-sized airplanes, the weight of the passenger is not really so much the issue. (If flying on a puddle-jumper, that may not be true.) Also, there has to be a minimum; a toddler still occupies a whole regular seat.

I'm all for it, but my family is not fat.

And select by height; If you're below 6ft you can't ride.
Like the theme park rides but for adults.
