Headed down on the 28th for a 4 day combo hunt starting on the 29th. Hunting dove, duck and perdiz (partridge) with some fishing thrown in. Let you guys know how it goes.

I'm not even a bird hunter and the best 3.5 days of my life was hunting dove down there. Good luck, I'm jealous. Hopefully I get to go back one day.

The golden dorado fishing is a blast. You basically reel in a 6” crankbait as quickly as you can and they blow it up. Jump like a tarpon.

I got back last month from Argentina dove hunt. I was immediately ready to go back. Got hunt in an auction - and if I go back I’m doing 5 star lodging. I think the hunting could be better than we had and I still shot
475+ birds on my best day

Be prepared for the time of your life IMO everyone should go to Argentina once to wing shoot it's everything its cracked up to be.

We unfortunately cancelled our trip yesterday there is a huge ammo crisis down there and we opted to hold off. Verify your outfitter has ammo before getting on a plane! Ours did but instead of $15/box they were $27/box that was too steep for our blood our other two outfitters we have used in the past didn't even have ammo.

DEAR LORD! $27 PER BOX!?! I feel like that whole outfit would have to close up for the season with that price. Given the quality of the shells down there as they are, $15 felt steep. I went through 5 or 6 shells from the same box on a duck hunt down there and dimpled every primer but no ignition. After a couple times I asked for a new box.

Agreed it’s why we cancelled. Shooting 20-40 boxes a day at doves sometimes more isn’t sustainable at 27/box.

Like I pointed out this is a seriously reputable outfitter down there and two others we know can’t even get ammo and are closed. It’s a real mess.

Holy crap!! When I went it was $15.. At $27 my shell bill would've been over $20k! Bad enough it was $11k already

Same here, I’m a sportsman but not a die hard by any means. We went with the David Denies group last year and it was one of the best trips of my life.

My guide just sent me an updated itinerary with pricing on June 6 and he quoted $14.50/box which was the pricing from the outset but you got me nervous now. I just sent him a text to confirm.

Which lodge? We went to Pica Zura. They told us that the really hot hunting is further north.

I’m guessing you may be going to Estancia Cortaderas with Trek. Went there about 10 years ago and had a great trip.

With regards to the shells, we just went back to Cordoba area in May and shells were 17/box.

Have a great trip.

That’s fantastic for you guys Larry. I’m still not accepting we aren’t headed South this year. Been looking forward to it for some time. I hope the rest of you all have better results than we did. Our lodge of 20 years is temporarily closed and the others we found had to increase prices to make it all work. It sucks.

D Denies is a fine outfit. I have been several times, and they had the best that I have experienced. Truly the trip of a lifetime and worth every penny. The shells have become the true expense now.

Confirmed $14.50/box. They stocked up before the hike. We are hunting at Estancia La Criolla - Santa Fe area. Estancia, hunting lodge and working 5000 acre farm.

Hunted Estancia La Criolla a few years ago for duck, dove and perdiz. Great duck hunting, limits on perdiz, and the dove hunting was fantastic, but not the absurdity that is Cordoba (we're talking about the difference between killing 1K a day vs. 2K or 3k per day so really splitting hairs at that point.)

Also, on the Perdiz hunts at La Criolla, we kicked up 5 or 6 of the biggest rabbits you've ever seen, somewhere between the size of a cocker spaniel and a GSP. The bird boys were going nuts over them and very graciously asked if they could keep them. Sure bud, what the hell am I going to do with them? Saw them skinning them out after the hunt to sell the hides, guess you can get a few bucks out of them.

Only other word of advice is don't try to be helpful! After finishing up a limit of ducks, the guide said he was walking back to get the truck. I offered to pick up the birds scattered around the decoys. He said "no, senor, you wait here. No go out there." It was damn cold and I wanted to stretch my legs so I went anyway. Walked towards where the pasture met the pond and before I knew it, I was completely underwater up to my neck. I guess I stepped on flotsam or some other thick floating vegetation that looked just like the grass in the pasture. The guide came back scared to death and had to help pull me out. He got a nice tip that day! Stupid Americans.

Did you deal with Tomas when you booked? Also, did you spend any time in BA? Any recs on tours or restaurants?

Also, what time of the year did you go and what do you call damn cold? Technically we are going in their Winter but I didnt see where it got below 40??

Update: Just checked the weather and granted not my week but the 24th and 25th its going to be 77 high and 55 low.

While I’m not the one you are asking for help…

Don Julio’s steak house in Buenos Aries is literally one of the top 10 steak houses in the world it’s absolute worth the visit. There are several caparaginia(spelling?) bars we go to that are great as well. It’s an awesome city to visit. Y’all will enjoy it.
