Generator/coffee maker

So I had to power up the generator and use the transfer switch Sat-Sun as we were without juice for 24 hours.
Sunday morning the coffee maker would not work in the same outlet we use every day. I tried another 3 with same result.
Now with restored power it works fine.
Throw me some clues.

Did you try anything else in those same outlets?
If yes and they were functioning properly, It’s possible it’s frequency sensitive. Some appliances get weird about stability and many generators are all over the map and freak out some devices.

Coffee makers pull a lot of watts. I think most are 1500 watts or more.
What else was running at that time?

Yes. For convenience I used a plug in night light to check if outlets were good.

You may be on to something here??? I noticed the light on a ceiling fan wanted to strobe when on.
I can do without a lot of things but going without coffee does not make me the friendliest person. Help!

Turn the generator on and plug the coffee maker directly into it. See what happens?
What kind of coffee maker? If it’s just a very basic drip you are fine, if it’s something like a Keurig or more complicated with a board that may be the issue?

Instant hot water under sink is a game changer for morning coffee, but with a 1300w element may cause the same issue. But if you’re a French press guy that doesn’t mind boiling on the stove when the power is out, this thing is great.
But probably pulling more juice than the generator had to give and getting unexpected (nonfunctional) results in turn.

Stove top percolator is my hurricane solution for coffee. I agree with comments of pulling a lot of watts. I used to plug mine into a surge protector to condition the power. I don't know if it helped or not but I had coffee.

If the generator wasn't producing clean power then it might interfere with the function of certain electronics. LED lights are always susceptible, the driver circuitry doesn't tolerate out-of-spec electricity which is why I keep a good stock of incandescents.

I don't think it was being overloaded. If that were the issue the generator would've started choking and potentially shut down. 1500W won't make an 8kW generator break a sweat.
EDIT: If your gen was getting overloaded the breaker on it would likely trip.
I agree with others that it's most likely dirty power. If the generator can't hold a good ~60Hz or has a lot of harmonics it can make sensitive electronics have issues. The strobing lights you mentioned are likely a good indicator of that.

During power outages my generator will run anything in my house, except the dang refrigerator. I’m thinking about buying a pure sine inverter to plug into my generator just for the fridge. Seems like a waste but…

That’s why I bought Honda Inverter generators-7000/5500 running watts, have 2 actually with parallel cable so I get 11,000 running watts.Expensive but worth it IMO.
I have several friends that burned up TV’s and computers with Chinese generators.
Honda’s are great,quiet and fuel efficient.Part of my rationale for getting two is in the unlikely event 1 breaks I could still get by with 1.
