There is less than zero chance Skenes pitches anything other than Game 1.

Then maybe a 1% chance if he’s needed to come out of the losers bracket on Thursday.

Then 100% chance he goes Saturday if not used Thursday. OR maybe 30% chance he goes Monday if he was used Thursday and we’re in Game 3 of CS.

Id hold Skenes for a potential marbles game matchup with the #1 team in the country. Best on best. Also i dont think we'd throw him twice before the Championship series.. so "you have to start him game 1 so we can bring him back" doesnt resonate with me.

Games 1 and 2 are equally important. Set up the pitching the best way possible to win the first 2.

Every team in Omaha is good. And hot. You don’t try to get cute. It’s all fun and games until you try to “save” Skenes and end up losing opening round.

Jay Johnson picked Skenes game 1 of a regional against 19 win Tulane. Zero chance it’s anyone but Paul the first game in Omaha.

Must win first two games...

Gm 1 Floyd, Hurd if necessary
Gm 2 Skenes

Given the schedule for Omaha you should start Skenes game 1. The earlier he pitches the earlier he can come back and pitch again.

This.

It isn't regionals. He starts game 1 and it isn't a question.

1. The other team (USM/UT) both throw their ace and they are both really good.
2. Give Skenes enough rest to throw again.
3. Losing 1st game in Omaha is fricking brutal for your chances of winning it all if you don't have a very deep pen (which we don't)

Skenes for first game, then TBD.

Hurd is my 2nd game starter if we have Wake then. If Hurd is on, he is our best chance against Wake.

Floyd, then Coleman for next starts.

Let's hope Cooper is as good as he has been in his past couple of appearances. Will need Auk and Money to have good outings as well. Both Money and Cooper may eat up some innings in the large park at Omaha.

And if you dont "get cute", Skenes shoves game 1 and Floyd or whoever gets rocked by top ranked Wake ... you're in the same spot.

Saving Skenes isnt "getting cute". Its smart to align your best pitcher for the toughest game.

The whole "save Skenes for Wake crowd" will be in for a rude awakening if LSU loses game 1 and we don't see them

Whether you lose game 1 without Skenes or game 2 without Skenes is no different in the CWS.

That’s true. And the toughest game is probably game 1.

Doubtful. You keep Skenes on schedule especially since both the USM and Tennessee Ace is really good.

UT and USM threw their aces yesterday, so they aren’t going in game 1. Also, that was likely Hall’s worst game of the season. His lacked command and hung some bad balls in the zone. I know UT is really good, but he was off.

All that said, I would start Skenes game 1 to set him up for an early final series appearance no matter what. That seems to be how Jay has set this whole thing up so far. As for Wake, the offense is going to have to win that one, no matter what. They are center of the Sun hot right now.

No it isn’t, unless you already have info that your opponent has already shoved their ace to game 2. Otherwise, you get a W under your belt and keep your ace on schedule

iYes they are. It’s only one less rest day. No different than pitching Friday then the next Thursday.

No its not. Wake's rotation is 3 deep, have a shutdown closer, a veteran lineup and are playing some of their best ball right now.

Tennessee may be close but to say they're the tougher matchup is patently false.

I like skenes game 1

Hurd then Floyd.

Saves Floyd if we somehow drop game 2. Then we still have our number 2 as most call him for our first elimination game

Hall pitched 153 pitches in 2 games in their regional and pitched again yesterday and didn’t look good, at least by his standards. He wouldn’t pitch game 1.
