That step is 2 steps after the ball was already thrown. How the frick is that interfering with anything?
You may have solved it there

For all those “fans” that said we have the worst bullpen in sec. Now what???? Stay positive people. We have more talent than everyone else.

Ball hit our runner in the SECT, right? I’m sure that’s the only difference but probably not technically part of the rule.

NCAA Rule 7, Section 11 (p) : In running the last half of the distance from home plate to first base while the ball is being fielded to first base, the batter-runner runs outside the 3-foot restraining line or inside the foul line and, in so doing, interferes with the fielder taking the throw at first base, except that the batter may go outside these lines to avoid a fielder attempting to field a batted ball
based on the rule, because the throw was so far off, it doesn't matter if he was in or not in the runners lane. Dugas didn't interfere with the fielder taking the throw.

They keep forgetting to add that the rule also says that the runner’s path affected the throw. So it’s a judgement call from the umps.

Dugas safe maybe because of high throw?
Posted on 6/5/23 at 3:59 pm to saint tiger225
Thompson up, Dugas on 1st, 1 out
swing and a miss, 0-1
6-4-3 double play, inning over
swing and a miss, 0-1
6-4-3 double play, inning over

Somebody finally got the memo saying that's not what replay is for.

As a defender now, on a play like that when you're almost definitely not gonna make the play...you peg the runner right between the numbers and pray he got one toenail inside the line and get the interference call.
Would have NEVER got that call pre-instant replay. I wonder how many championships and teams are different if they have replays for stuff like that the last 100 years

This pitchers stuff is nasty, especially to lefties

Apparently not.
His last step before tagging first base was ruled on the line, but very close.
