I am in a hotel around 280 nights per year.

You’d be surprised. When you’re in hotels that much they treat you differently than a normal rando. I couldn’t be away from the kids that much but when I was in my 20’s, 280 nights a year would be sweet. At that point you don’t even need to have an actual home and would have almost zero personal expenses. Stash your stuff with your parents and pocket mountains of cash.

I've spent a good portion of my adult life in hotels, been dong it so long it's just part of the routine, of course it's somewhat mitigated by not having to book, pay, wait in line, etc., and having pretty good discounts for amenities at the places we stay

Once a month for max 2 days is not extensive. What's the real problem?

I fully understand the perks, I’m just saying 280 nights away from home and family sounds absolute miserable to me.

agree, that's a bit much, especially if you have a family

When my graduate high school in a few years I’m considering selling the house getting and RV to live in and just travelling the country in between work trips.

worked with a guy a few years ago that does this, he and his gf just go wherever in between trips and make their way to an airport when it's time for him to go to work and he flies to wherever she is when he's finished

Pretty good plan.
I knew one guy that travelled that much when he was younger and he literally never went “home”. If he was in some sucky place for work, on Fridays he’d fly “home” to Miami or Denver or some place like that depending on the time of year and play all weekend or go crash on a friends couch. If the client was in a good location, the company would let him just stay there instead of paying for plane tickets so he’d spend the weekend partying on their dime.
I think the best one was when he had to be in Charlotte for a summer. He got a rental house on Lake Norman instead of hotels. My God the constant stream of tail he had at that place. Constant party.

Finally back to normal travel. I travel about 80% of the year. Once a month for 1-2 days seems like a nice get away. I like what I do, so I don’t mind the travel.

I don't travel for work, and I travel 1-2 days a month for work. Point is, that's not enough to be considered traveling for work IMO.
Exactly this.
And they still make me work 9/80

There was a point, pre-Covid where I spent 2 days at home one month. My apartment in Dallas was basically an overpriced storage unit at that point.

Spent the last 15 years living out of a suitcase. Four nights a week 50 weeks a year in a hotel. I missed most of my 12 year old’s life so far. Got out a year ago and won’t be going back to that lifestyle.
28 and single, the amount of travel you mentioned is nothing. I’d do that, no doubt.

I work in the fertilizer industry. I am all over the damn place. So my working out of town may be a different experience than others.
But I have all over the Midwest.....even some small towns. Those are some of my favorites!

just returned from three months in Thailand ... great place to work and the weekends are even better.
My girlfriend is in the same industry, so she gets it thankfully.

have to be in the office 3x a week.
Make sure your 2 days travel counts as your time in office for the week. Also, make sure that they pay you a per diem on top of room and travel.

1-2 days a month is nowhere near a lot of travel. That’s less than 10% even if you take out weekend days.
