Advice for keeping moving costs low?

Facts: I am moving about 300 miles. Single. 35. Moving for new job in Ocean Springs, MS. One vehicle. I am leaving a 3-2 home and moving into the same so I plan to keep all furniture as of now (but may be open to selling and buying again there). My current home will stay as a rental so all appliances will stay behind.
This is the longest move and the most stuff I have ever had to move. It's my first move where I cannot just go back and forth from my homes...
What are some things I need to keep in mind before my move early August?

Biggest Uhaul you feel comfortable towing your car behind (and you can fill your car with more stuff too). All except their smallest allow the car dolly behind
Even though you want to keep your furniture, it’s also just as easy to buy new shite off of FB marketplace once you get there so save the room for things that are more expensive/harder to replace and don’t take up room
Other option is pay a friend to follow you in your car (they can help you unload in new spot) and you buy them a one way ticket back

Rent a uhaul. Get insurance. Crash it into a river. Buy all new stuff.

How old are you?
I was about 25 before I realized helping friends and family move that far was a pain in the arse and not worth the beer

Waiting to hear back on a job and I might be in the same situation soon.

In town U-Haul or Penske rental if they still don't have mileage limits. Return it where you got it from and it's way cheaper than dropping it off at the new place.
Load that sucker down and bring it back. Do your last weekend with friends or family and then bring your personal vehicle to the new home.
Eta: pods are good too if you're ok with their dropoff schedule. Done both .
Or a moving company will show up and do it all for that size house for about 12-15k if you're willing to part with some stuff.

Pod sure is nice for not having to deal with the uhaul/Penske ramp to load.

Not to be a dick, but next time you’re moving that far for a job you should consider asking for moving expenses from your employer. Relocation expenses can be written off by companies and if they really want you they will likely cave on that ask.
I’ve gotten soft and spoiled hiring professionals to move my stuff and I’m not going back

Negotiate moving expenses before taking the job. Or, go to work the the government/Army.

Are you the owner of your current home and planning to rent it out or are you currently renting?

Pay professionals to move your stuff.

Rent uhaul and hire movers to load/unload.
I’ve hired through the uhaul website before and it turned out well.
Drive the truck yourself.

I’ve moved 3 times in the last 8 years. If you have nice shite, pay someone reputable and don’t try to save money.

I’d suggest go through stuff that you honestly want to keep or if you haven’t used an item in say 30 days or so - then maybe pitch it

Perfect opportunity to get rid of 3/4 of what you own.
By 35 you’ve accumulated a lot of shite. Don’t pay someone to move said shite to your new home.

we moved from Dallas area to Lafayette last Summer. 4 bedrooms of furniture. Found a local mover that does moves inside of 500 miles for $4200.00.
We packed everything. They were professional, fast and really careful. (nothing was broken).
Look for similar companies where you live or do it yourself. I am over 50 and don't want to ever move myself again.
