Anyone have experience with Benjamin Moore paint. Is their AURA paint that much better than their Ben line?

I am paining all of my interior walls in my house.

The only 2 brands of paint I'll use are Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams. For the past several years I've used SW exclusively since it is closer to my house and I have an account with them.

Both have a few different lines of paint priced accordingly. Some are more geared to the apartment complex line where you are painting just about every time a place becomes vacant and needs freshening up----I don't use that line.

I opt for their top of the line paint or second tier paint for personal use depending on what I'm painting.

I used the aura before it does very well. I'll use it again if I have to paint.

Benjamin Moore is the best.....always stay with the paint high in titanium dioxide content....TiO2 gives paint maximum blockage and durability.

Cheap paint is a really bad decision, trust me.

This. Especially for your primary residence.

Used Benjamin Moore years ago for all of our interior. Still looks great.

I’ve used Ben and Regal Select and both have been very good interior wall paints. Young kids rooms go Ben, other rooms go Regal Select, you’re probably not gonna be able to tell a difference.

One main appeal of Aura is that the base allows more pigment which simply makes the colors a little more dynamic in different lights (like the Farrow & Ball paints etc). Not sure it's better than Regal in any other way.

The Ben Moore REGAL line is probably the way to go unless you just a want a specific color only available in Aura. It's easy paint that covers great and touches up.

The BEN line is actually a lot better than some people think. Looks great and has fantastic coverage so definitely a great bargain.

Only problem with Ben is that it doesn't come in Flat anymore if you want that (and darker colors mixed in it have a very Eggshell type sheen even in "Matte".

Our painter used BM Regal. I have no idea about pigments or chemical compounds but i can tell you with light colored walls and 4 kids under 10, our walls and trim get dirty. And they wipe clean with a wet paper towel or bleach free Clorox type wipe.

I’ve found BM Regal best deal, quality for interior walls and trim. Love it for color work. Goes on great, spreads even and tough.

However, don’t sleep on Farrel-Calhoun line of paint. Their exterior latex is great stuff as is their interior white trim.

Good paint AIN’T cheap.

Ben will be fine for recoating. Auru is great for reds and yellows that usually take multiple coats.

Found out the hard way that some of the Ben colors were recently "reformulated," according to the staff at the store. For whatever reason, they still sell this reformulated paint with the same name. Compared the mixing labels on the old and new cans verified as much.

Found this out while painting. Touch-up attempts turned into repainting entire rooms.

I can vouch that this is more apparent than I expected. I ordered a color in regal select, then ordered it again in Aura to cover something else, and the different in natural light was very noticeable. Like WM stated - more dynamic in sunlight.

We used Ben in our living room at the beginning of Covid, and it is some shade of white. Had a 2 year old at the time, and even after 3 years of toddler fun, the walls look great and clean up nicely. The gallons may be more expensive than Lowe's or Home Depot, but they go further and last longer. Even painting with them, I could tell a difference.

The trick with paint is labor yours or what you are paying for a cheep paint takes more coats more coats is more paint, that 20 dollar a gallon paint takes 2-3 coats that’s now 60 dollars that plus the labor for the two or 3 coats how much did you save ? Not saying you can get a paint that’s one and done but it’s very close. The cheep paint will cost you more.

Exactly what I'd tell customers who tried to insist on cheaper paint from the big box stores. More coats, more labor, more cost and in the end, still not as good a paint job than if using quality paint.

BM is a great paint. We use Sherwin Williams because the contractor pricing is significantly better and the painters like it. But BM is a very good paint. Those would be the only two I'd ever use. Every one of our painters would say the same thing.

Sherwin Williams Superdeck is garbage, painted three years ago and already looks like the Klopeks' porch.

Best and longest lasting outdoor wood deck paint, anyone? I'll pay $100+ a can if I don't have to repaint it every 3 fricking years.
