One thing that's been swaying me: Trump can only serve one term but Ron can serve two

I have long said my ideal situation is to have Don for 4 then Ron for 8 but there is no way we get 12 years of a conservative President in today's world but there is a possibility Ron gets through his first term with a lot of support and is a strong incumbent leading to 4 more years.

Meanwhile, if Trump wins then we go back to having to deal with the cluster F that is the RNC in 2028.

If I absolutely knew Trump would go scorched earth during those 4 then it might be worth it but there's no promise of that as he didn't in his first 4 nor when he knew he was cheated out of reelection. He should have been handing out pardons to the likes of Snowden and Assange at the end amongst other things.

I am still leaning toward Trump simply because his first term was so successful despite not achieving all of his goals but there's a lot to consider like can either one win the general and fight the cheating that will happen.

DeSantis will win the general, no excuses.

DeSantis will advance conservatism in monumental, lasting ways for 8 years.

Trump is a coin flip shot at best to win the general, and should he win his influence would be much less than DeSantis’ given he’d be an 80 year old lame duck Day 1.

Trump can serve one term followed by two by DeSantis if people weren't such dickheads.

No shake back

I listened to Ron's spaces the other day and it reminded me how well he tackles issues. I even made a thread saying how good it was.

I still have concerns about him being able to shake the RINOs and swamp, though. I am more open-minded than I was a few months ago.

Look at it this way. We were lucky to get one term out of Trump. The chances of a recently former Democrat jumping into the Republican primary, going scorched earth, winning the primary, then pulling out the general by the skin of his teeth after Comey made that last announcement about the e-mail investigation was a political miracle. All credit goes to Trump for pulling that off, but he just never had quite the ability to be successful over the long term, he’s too short sighted, impulsive, narcissistic.

The Trump situation cuts both ways. Bongino was saying you need Trump because he will wreck shop and not have to worry about re-election. But, I think the DC bureacracy would just undermine him for four years like the first time and nothing would get done. I think scumbags like McConnell would work a little better with DeSantis and the security state wouldn't be quite so hostile to Ron as he wouldn't threaten to burn it down.

Greenwald did a show on the Snowden/Assange pardons. He had inside knowledge that Rand and Gaetz were pushing them, while Pompeo said "no." Once J6 happened, Miss Lindsey, Turtle, and Rubio hung impeachment over Trump's head, and that was it.

I will also say this. Trump paved the way for DeSantis. Trump provided a blueprint which DeSantis improved upon. DeSantis took the best parts of Trump, and left behind the baggage. He’s both more electable and more effective at winning policy battles.

This is all stuff I have been considering

I would love scorched earth Trump but I also understand DC is about compromise or nothing gets done. After 4 years of how progressive Biden has been, we need anything to get back to as close to the center as possible so if someone has to compromise to do that then it is what it is.

It feels like throwing in the towel and it sort of is but that is also how modern DC works. Take what we can get at this point before we lose everything.

Yep.

Ron has too much pride.

Now he will lose and fade into oblivion.

I would prefer Trump, but he has no path to victory in the general. Plus, his 2016 schtick is overplayed and almost cringy at this point. 90% of the people I know who voted 2x for Trump are going for Desantis this round.

What makes you think things will change.

If you want limited government Trump didn't go scorched earth 2016-2020. He grew the DoD. He grew the letter agency budgets 6%-8% YoY. He spent like a Democrat. He expanded government Etc. Etc. He had four years.

What is bad to me is Trump does not talk about these things, less spending, smaller government, etc. It is not in his purview.

DeSantis hit "limited government" is his Elon podcast with talking with Thomas Massie. He hit it again later that night with Trey Gowdy.

You have a choice here.
