Houses are the main way of generating wealth for families and anything that could potentially lower the asset growth will be met with hostility.
Wife and I are trying to get our hands on as much of it as possible.
Also, both of our parents never drove the flashiest cars or had the newest gadgets, but always put value into real estate and home ownership so it was engrained in us. Younger brother and his wife bought their first house at 25 and I was the late bloomer buying at 28. That A hole also got a 2ish percent interest rate since he bought at the beginning of covid.

Home ownership has certainly been a foundation for building wealth, but it is not a wealth builder in and of itself. It's more of a correlation coefficient. Especially in this housing market.

And we see how popular that idea was.
Im not supportive of that. We do make it a policy point to protect housing appreciation and the trade off is increasing young people will struggle to find housing until later.
We're not alone it seems. Pretty typical of the Anglosphere.

Bought my first house in august of 2020 at 2.97% fixed. Seems like a buzzer beater purchase.

Yeah, that's a good one. Our rate is somewhere in the mid 5% range

Of course… that’s bc the people who own lots of property also hold the most political power. Young non-homeowners hold virtually no political and financial power.

Property values in nicer neighborhoods went to absolute shite because of this bullshite.

How sad is it to resort to a "I know you are but what am I?" I gave you a truth. You don't have it harder than millions of others who've come before you and you respond like a seven year old because you know I'm correct.

As it should be.

Values in nice, established neighborhoods shot up.

are you still crying about something from two pages ago?

Not all of them. The instance I'm referring to was in a nicer neighborhood that had houses rezoned as section 8.

I was correct that that's all you've got multiple posts ago. You're predictable.

I was a kid in the early 80s but I know it was a rough time coming off of the failed policies of Carter.

Nobody was rezoning parts of Highland Park or Bellaire to Section 8

Go look at the amount of things involving property owners that come up for vote that get voted on by non property owners and get back to us.
Everyone's vote counts. Some way more than others

But it you are asking me, it was $190k.
Assuming you are in Gwinnett and being very generous with the numbers there is no way in hell your property tax is the highest line item on your monthly mortgage payment.

Yes, I addressed how they actually vote in a previous post. Plus the obvious of having more $$ to throw around.
