nb4: should have gotten a hot water heater

a handyman who's capable may be cheaper than a plumber.

Check to see if just a relight is needed. Sometimes they go out. If it’s near 10-15 years old probably want to look into replacing. I’d go tankless. Plumber is the right call.

Then it's just a water holder.

Do you have gas heat?

If it’s electric you can swap out the heating elements yourself. A plumber will charge hundreds but they sell the kits at Lowe’s for about $40. Check your water heater for the wattage so you get the right one.

Don't forget to check the thermocouple. Had that issue and replaced it for a few bucks by calling Ideal Appliance on Florida.

I probably need to replace mine pretty soon. It's from the 80s

Based on what exactly?
And assuming you meant thermostat, it could also be heater element or breaker or loose wire.

electric or gas?
go check the breaker panel first to see if you have a trip.

Mine is a 1983 model. They don’t make them like they used to.
