You really need to research SSRIs and brnzos and figure out if the medicine itself is causing your depression and anxiety.

I’m have an appointment Tuesday to do annual bloodwork and to talk about weaning myself from Prozac. I’ve been on it 25+ years with minimal success. I’ve come to realize that its most likely effects have been to make me emotionally empty and numb. Dead inside almost.

No offense intended, but you should have mentioned this to your prescriber and gotten the Prozac changed to an alternative a long time ago. Your last 25 years didn't have to be like that, and neither do your next 25. Hope you're feeling better soon

I'm always having to deal with teenage girls that get put on a cocktail of psych meds by an OB/GYN. They're rarely ever right.

My spouse has been on meds for years. Her anxiety is somewhat under control for now but nothing has ever touched the depression and she's tried everything. Some people are non responders to meds. Her Dr wants her to try ketamine and/or transcranial magnetic stimulation but she's reluctant.

Do you exercise daily?

How much time do you spend outside working in the yard or home project?

Active hobbies?

Any and all the above are better than a drug. It’s not a prescription…it’s drugs. Get the natural endorphins going. Go a month without any drinks or drugs. You’ll feel great.

TexasTiger08 claimed he was 5'8" 205 lbs back in May. Since then, he's had a summer from HELLL emotionally wife that left him, moved out to get her own place, is shagging with her co-worker (who happened to be one of OP's friends), and as of early this month she was pregnant and wanting a divorce.

OP is a reck and literally hundreds of posters on the OT have provided months of marital advice and self-help plans, etc.

I heard about Ketamine therapy during a podcast, the program was called mindbloom...i did some digging and they said it's not available in LA right now though. Looks interesting to me, it looks to combine CBT with ketamine therapy somehow...

Ketamine IV infusion and nasal administration centers are available throughout the state (I'm admittedly less knowledgeable about north LA)

The last couple of weeks I have spiraled. It’s as if suddenly the dosage I’m on isn’t enough. Things that used to make me happy no longer do. In the grand scheme of things, I have a good life (stable income, beautiful wife, etc.). I always say, you can’t really help how you feel. I don’t want to feel like shite…the anxious feeling, the unsettled feeling, the inability to establish a routine, the lack of time to catch my breath and just the general feeling of being unhappy. Has anybody run into this issue and switched meds? I’m hesitant to up the dosage, as I am not a fine of the side effects. I’ve been on my current meds for 9 years. I started taking them because my stress and anxiety was impacting me physically. I had to go see a neurologist, get an EEG, and later took an EKG. The meds immediately fixed the issue. Nine years later, here I am.

What you’re experiencing is very common with people on antidepressants long term. Just because you’re on meds doesn’t mean that life stressors stop or stop having negative effects on your brain. Your body has gotten used to the current dose but your life stresses have not. You need to go to your doctor and have your meds adjusted. Also try going to a few sessions of therapy. Just a few sessions of psychotherapy makes antidepressants work a lot better.

I beg to differ about GPs being far from experts. If your GP graduated medical school in this century then they know about antidepressants. My last rotation of residency was psychiatry. I was way better at managing anxiety and depression than the psychiatrists were. Psychiatrists now are trained to handle the more difficult psych issues like schizophrenia and inpatient good psychiatric care. They will throw SSRIs at patients faster than a GP will. Also good luck getting an appointment with a psychiatrist if you’re not already seen by one. Unless the OP is suicidal or homicidal then he is looking at several months wait depending on where he is. Also most outpatient psychiatrists are cash pay and you can file on your insurance and get reimbursed a fraction of the cost.

That is only for people who have failed multiple antidepressants in multiple antidepressant drug classes. The OP needing a medication adjustment after years of his anxiety/depression being controlled would not be indicated even if it was available where the OP is.
