Who actually likes “travel ball”

I dont have a kid playing but all i hear is how its a giant hassle and stress on parents. Costs a fortune. Everyone in family misses out on things at home. Multi kid families are split in two directions every weekend. Plus its the leading blame for arm injuries. When i was kid in town of 40k there was enough athletes to have 2 competitive Leagues with 8-10 teams in each age group. Why dont parents just say screw your travel team. We arent doing it?

a couple of weeks ago I heard some dad telling his kids to quit laughing and focus because they had a game later that day. The kids looked miserable.

A city the size of BR, Nola, Lafayette should have zero need to travel for “good competition”. Northshore as well. Maybe some of small towns need to travel 20-30 miles at most. Its BS and its a scam by people trying to make money.

Parents who live through their kids

Travel Ball is mostly a misnomer. Tournament ball is more accurate since most teams rarely travel that far to play, and it's a weekend tournament format. Both of my boys played growing up, and I loved it. They also played football and basketball in season. It's really no different than other kids' activites such as AAU basketball, cheer, dance, music competitions, etc.

It’s stupid and HS baseball coaches I know said the talent is not different now than before travel ball. It also gets rid of big uncoordinated kids who fill out later. It filled with runts who dads coach. 2 of best travel balls kids I know, never played HS baseball. They were burned out from playing since 4 years old and 100 games a year.

if you're kid isn't doing travel ball, it makes it very unlikely he's going to show up on highschool campus and not be left in the dust by all the other kids who have. assuming your kid isn't some physical specimen type athlete. travel ball is just ball now. rec ball is non existent at a competitive level.

They are full on lunatics with it at the plant. Any time my safety man gets started talking that shite with somebody, I have to walk away because they'll frick off for the next hour in a circle jerk over it.

What is travel ball in places like Houston? It’s nothing but paid baseball teams because your kid wasn’t good enough to make it in rec play so they take him/her to ride the pine or put them on the “B” team. They hardly travel anywhere in a place that big because the Houston metro area is probably close to 7million people. It is really “tournament ball”. It is about getting your kid noticed from what I can tell.
The best way to help your kid is put them in multiple sports.

Because parents are living vicariously through their children. Travel soccer is a total scam. Half the kids aren't even good enough

I can picture all the Z71 Tahoe’s in the parking lot

Hopefully the craze dies soon. Its a money racket. All it really does is replace rec ball with something that has prettier packaging and misleads parents into thinking their kids are better than they are.

My oldest played travel ball, but we made him wait until age 13. He played regular youth league until then and we even refused to let him play All-stars during those years as we wanted him and us to have a regular summer with other activities.
He played 3 years of travel ball until high school and then played high school until he graduated.
It is absolutely nuts to sign up for travel teams for these young 7-12 years olds. Let them enjoy life. If they want to play travel ball once a teenager, they will do just fine.

Travel ball just allows for better competition. I think my son benefited greatly from playing against the best kids in the region.

We do it because our sons are fricking bad arse and dont want to be on a team with some loser kids who have never played a sport in their life.
Marucci Cat X and DeMarini bats are aplenty and any kid that isnt rolling around an enormous Boombah bag full of baseball gear just isnt going to cut it.
WIN WIN WIN is how we roll.
Yours Truly,
the parents of Braxxtyn and Brekken

You spend more money on it than you would just saving up and sending your kid to community college for a couple of years. I did it a long time.
You are forced to do it now. From 8 to 13 the baseball rec leagues are not competitive. I know I was just adding to the problem but that’s how it was. I never thought I was working him into a scholarship, but just playing with people you could count on to just show up to play was what we were getting into with rec.
And for girl soccer rec was not an option after 11.

What if there was a way to assemble a good crew of parents and kids that you want to be around, cull the crazies, be as competitive as you want and set your own schedule in your local area. This is what travel ball is to me.
