It's because they knew from a young age they were physically ugly and/or overweight, so to lash out at the more attractive normies they alter their bodies in the most abnormal way to say frick you to the people who aren't physically abnormal.

Yep..they are so miserable with themselves that they feel that by looking wierd, it will upset normal happy people just by seeing them. They cannot stand the fact that everything they believe in comes back to bite them in the a$$ so the old saying....misery loves company comes into play.

This brings to mind the old Far-Side cartoon of how Mother Nature warns us that we should avoid interacting with certain species.
The bizarre hair coloring and piercings favored by many woke progs definitely are a warning sign.
Though complete avoidance is probably the wisest option, these attestations should be seen as a signifier to tread with caution in any social interaction.

Looking strange is certainly indicative of being a Wokester. I was going through the checkout at the grocery store this afternoon and the young girl who was bagging groceries had short bluish and pink hair, wearing clothes that were obviously meant to signal she was identifying as a dude.....and then I saw the name tag....Clay. I've never seen a girl use the name Clay.
