Ed Sheeran has defeated a copyright infringement lawsuit involving his Grammy-winning song "Thinking Out Loud" and the Marvin Gaye classic "Let's Get It On."
A Manhattan jury has found the musician did not engage in willful copyright infringement following a trial that saw Sheeran playing guitar and singing in court.
The jury reached its decision after roughly three hours of deliberations.

That's awesome news. Very happy for him. He's legit one my favorites to listen to right now.

Money grab by the Gaye estate
The two songs sound nothing alike

The Marvin Gaye family group is a bunch of simps. They sue people all the time for copyright infringement.
If you murdered the artist you should lose your right to sue others for money over what's not yours.

Good. The reality is there’s only so many chord progressions to choose from in music. Melody is different, lyrics are different, key is different.

No shite.
If someone tried to copyright a G, C, D chord progression, that would eliminate 50% of songs created in all of recorded history.

Glad the courtroom had some common sense. No one listens to Thinking Out Loud and wonders if it’s that Marvin Gaye song.

Reminds me of vanilla ice explaining the subtle distinction between his song and the song he lifted it from

Good. The lawsuit was a nonsense money grab.

Good. Sooooo many songs use similar progressions.

Good.
That was a stupid lawsuit to begin with.

Musicians take things from each other all the time. One band influenced another that influenced another and so on. They even take lines or samples and inject them into original songs. Weird thing to sue over.

Careful y’all.
Got a couple of downvoters in here who clearly hate his music.

Good, because he said he'd quit making music if he lost that lawsuit.

Good for him.
To hell with the grifters.

Good now he needs to sue Thomas Rhett for doing the same to his song.
Die a happy man is the same song as Thinking out loud.

don't love his music, but i think suing off a few matching cords is ridiculous.

I’m not sure which gay I’m siding with on this one

All they wanted was a free concert, unplugged.
