Maybe a slightly unpopular option on Javen Coleman

I thought he pitched fine today. He gave up some hard hit balls but he doesn't seem to have control issues like I thought he might after Tommy John. Alderman's homer wasn't a terrible pitch but he did leave the other homer over too much of the plate. The stuff will play and he'll get more dialed in on his locations more and more each outing. By leaving him out there, Jay was playing the long game knowing we need to get him more reps.

I don't see anything wrong with that opinion.
This is only his second outing since returning from TJ and Jay was stretching him. OM was seeing him well, but that is only a concern for this game.

Yeah, we have less runway left than people think before postseason, so giving Coleman more rope today is not a bad thing. Long game. We just happened to actually win today as well.

I thought he looked fine. Like you said he tossed a couple pitches too much over the plate. They were sitting fastball. We are gonna need him so the more he gets out there the better.

I thought he threw very well for his second appearance post TJ. He will be a solid piece the rest of the year.

We are going to need him to eat up innings in Omaha if we are going to win a championship. Pitching strictly in midweek games isn't going to get him ready for that. Today was a perfect opportunity to get him in an SEC game on the road in a different environment than The Box.

He pitched lights out in my opinion!! Yes, coming off of TJ, he’s still a bit rusty. He’ll continue to improve tremendously in the coming weeks!!!

He needs to build back velocity and you do that by actually pitching.

Also as he gets more dialed in he is going to feel more comfortable with his off speed but yes the velocity and location should get much better, what I liked is he competed he wasn't scared of any hitter and that you can't teach

Lights out? Reel it back, bro. While I think that even live that Coleman should have come out a little earlier, I completely understand why he didn’t. We have to get our pitching staff figured out by post season. Jay felt like the risk was worth it to continue getting him reps with the series won. Hurd, Money, and others need to get some work midweek for sure. Hopefully Kling comes back and helps this lineup even more.

No.
He just got back this week. No need to rush him into a high leverage spot.
We have 4 more weeks of baseball, and then the SECT for him to get comfortable. Jay played with fire today and Travinski bailed him out.

If he feels 100%, it’s not rushing. I disagreed with it in the moment, but why not throw him in the fire?
It’s not like we left 2009 Matty Ott in the pen to let Coleman pitch anyway

We had already won the series.
Again, it was the perfect opportunity to get him some good reps.

You don’t just throw SEC games away for fun when you trail the leaders.
Skip Bertman used to talk about winning the SEC. He said you have to sweep the bad teams.

I think the veto will come back and then some as he went from 173lbs on the 22 roster to 205 this year. You could see today he has put on some good weight. Drive with those legs and pound the zone. His best baseball is still ahead of him this season.

Maybe it’s a low bar but I’m happy with any pitcher that doesn’t walk batters right now
Having a lefty with control is always a benefit even if the stuffs average at the moment

What are the other options?

I think his pitch count was 25 or 30 on the second homer.
That was his second time on the mound. Will take time to get in shape

I thought he looked pretty good. Unpopular to this board I think when Coach put him in and left him in it was in reaction to seeing what he could do right now against better competition and in a tight spot. He was not overly worried about winning or losing that game. He is thinking down the road and getting people ready for a Championship run. Turns out we won but people need to realize he is looking and preparing for the big picture not just sweeping a series.

He throws too perfect of a pitch and it’s no different than before he got hurt
It’s ok to make them chase
