What area to stay and eat in Memphis?

Going for a quick two night stay. Looking for a safe area. Our only plans is to go to Graceland one day but fine driving there so don’t have to be really close.
Also, best places to get BBQ. Nothing that I have to wait in a long line or anything.
TIA

I was born and raised in Memphis. My honest advice is to go elsewhere. Unless you’re the world’s biggest Elvis fan. Graceland and the associated tours are pretty meh.

Well I already prepaid for the Elvis tours like two years ago but we had to keep postponing the trip. Unfortunately, I think we’re stuck going now. Or I’m stuck from my wife. Lol

Stay downtown then. It’s not as bad as some will make it out to be, and plus that’s where you can walk to restaurants / bars. Maybe catch a Redbirds game. If not staying at Peabody then you should definitely visit and have a drink in the lobby bar.

Someone mentioned to me about possibly staying in Germantown and just driving into Graceland that one day. Thoughts on that?

Central Station is a brand new hotel in the historic train station tower, very nice. In an artsy district just south of downtown. Lots of good food and such nearby. They have a elevated parking deck that makes cars harder to be targeted. I've left cars there overnight with baggage that I couldn't bring in and it was fine.
The Peabody is cool and very historic but the walls are very thin and the place is super pricey.
I've also stayed a few times at the Double Tree behind the Peabody, it was pretty decent for a mid-range hotel. The Peabody and Central Station can get expensive.

My wife and I have spent a lot of time in Memphis over the last 4 or 5 years. We did all of our IVF stuff in Memphis, have been to several weddings downtown, etc. Downtown Memphis is not as bad as its made out to be if you have a remote clue what you’re doing.
What you’re talking about doing is the safe bet for sure though. If I were going this route, I’d either stay in Germantown or at the Memphian and eat BBQ at The Commissary in Germantown, and eat a nice meal at Porch and Parlor, which is right next door to the Memphian. Good little shopping district right there too for your wife… Germantown has good shopping too though.
Actually will probably do this one weekend in the summer.

Germantown for me, ditto on Commissary.
I was offered a job in Memphis, but declined. My decision was aided by the answer to my questions about where to live and send kids to school. Without fail, they said, "northern Mississippi." lol

East Memphis by 240 and Poplar has a number of decent hotels, I live nearby. There is a Central BBQ in that area and a lot of people lavish it with praise although I think it’s overrated.

Yes stay at the memphian. Porch and parlor is next door. Make reservations for the Memphian rooftop (Tiger and peacock). Several bars just steps away

Stay at the Memphian. The Second Line is across the street and has great food and drinks. The BBQ Shop on Madison is my favorite. Their pork nachos an BBQ spaghetti are awesome, along with the ribs and pulled pork.

If you are not going to stay downtown.
You can stay in Horn Lake or Southhaven, MS. There is a HWY that run right into Graceland from Horn Lake.

Graceland is the most underwhelming place I've ever been. It's a total money grab and I would give up the money I paid 2 years ago, no question.

I ate at BB Kings BBQ on Beale Street and it was really good.
