Skip took a while to get going, but he has the most dominant dynasty.
Saban got there fairly quickly, from low on the SEC totem pole.
Mulkey doesn't even have her players here yet, and is in the natty (for the first time in LSU bball history) in year 2.
That's a pretty powerful 1, 2, 3.
Throw in some lsu track and field... and it makes you wonder what's in the water at lsu.
Lots of winning.
Let's see what JJ can do. He might not be too far from joining this list.

LSU the sleeping giant…..Saban.

It could be argued that Mulkey is the number 1 hiring coup in LSU history. Skip and Nick didn't yet have the skins on the wall. Luring Mulkey from Baylor was like pulling Belichick from New England

Going by these standards, I would say hiring a coach from arguably the most storied program in college football is no small feat either. Oh, and he won the West in his first year.

I agree and I think overall she’ll win more ships. BUT Skip brought and carried LSU out of the ashes as a sports university. Saban taught LSU money wins and how to get it and where to spend it. But I agree. Mulkey more than likely will move up that list.

Add Jay Johnson to that list soon

As A.D., Skip let Saban and Pat Henry leave LSU without making any effort to keep them. Those two coaches later ended up at rival SEC schools, winning a lot of national championships that should have been LSU's.
Further, Saban beat LSU for the natty in 2011, so he actually directly prevented LSU from winning one. That negates the natty that he did win at LSU in '03...net gain of zero trophies.

That's a helluva stretch.....

As A.D.,
Who's talking about him as the AD? The subject of this thread is best coaching hires.
When he was the head baseball coach, he built something that still hasn't been broken.
It took him a little while but he built a juggernaut of a baseball program. Comparisons to it are still being made to this day.
Him be an AD is another subject.
With that being said, he's a super guy, very cordial and has cemented a legacy in LSU baseball that might not ever be broken.

So much wrong with all of this.

At the time, you couldn’t fault Skip with letting Saban leave. Everyone knew that he had an itch to get back to the NFL.

It’s not that skip let him leave- it’s that he let Mal Moore bring him to Bama instead of letting Les go and bringing him here
Strategic failure that will go down in sports history as the worst decision EVER

At that time, Les hadn’t done anything to get fired for

1. Pat Henry
2. Skip Bertman
3. Saban
4. TBD
This is undeniable if we are talking all sports. Henry dominated like no other winning 10 outdoor title ls and 7 indoor over an 10 year period. That’s Woodenesq.

Arnsparger.
Brought LSU back and showed it could win on national level. Next hires were screwed up but showed Saban it should be done
