First off I'll admit to being a bona fide tool snob. My home set is almost 100% Snap-On. Even the boxes are Snap-On. Having said that, I am not going to sit here and tell you to go get Snap-On tools or you're a dumbass. The big box stores have good tools, and if I needed a certain tool in a hurry I would buy from them in a heartbeat. But, your post indicates you may not want to spend that much money, initially. So, go to Harbor Freight. They have a high end tool line, Icon, and it has been tested by Project Farm, and others. They are pretty good tools, and they have a pretty good price too! They aren't cheap. Based on your OP I would go to Harbor Freight and look at the Pittsburgh line of tools and start there. I have friends, and some family that use that line with no issues around the house. That includes working on their own cars, trucks, and mowers. Compare them to the big box offerings and make your decision from there. Also, Harbor Freight has some very good tool boxes for the homeowner, and even the starting professional mechanic. Don't take just my word on all this, YouTube the different lines, there's hundreds of videos, then decide.

Well said. We have done some really stupid shite, straight up abuse, with the Pittsburgh tools. We rarely break one.
If I am going to buy china made, I am doing it at the cheapest place I can, which is harbor freight.
That said, I would rather support american workers and not empower my enemies.

I ordered a dewalt set. They claim to have a lifetime warranty. We’ll see how it goes. Really not practical to spend the money on snap-on for my needs.

Another brand to look at if you want high quality is Williams. It's a Snap On industrial brand. They typically have two lines, imported and USA. The USA sockets are 100% the same as Snap On's for a good bit cheaper. The Ratchets are a rebadged version of the older Snap On ratchets. Wrenches are similar. You can get them online and at industrial supply places. Proto is similar quality as well.
Big box store wise, I've had good luck with Husky stuff. Pliers I stick with Channellock, Klein, and Knipex.

I really like older (made in USA) Craftsman and SK Tools. Both have lifetime warranty although the new replacements may not be of the same quality.

Their pliers are american made but I don't believe the socket sets are.

Just because someone doesn't live in the same country as you doesn't make them your enemy.
Most of the better tools are being made in countries other than China, even the Harbor freight stuff is moving to Taiwan. All my impact sockets are MIT harbor freight.
The Chinese people make plenty of quality products, where they falter is they will make exactly what you want. If American businessmen tell the Chinese to make the absolute cheapest part possible the Chinese will make it.
Don't make the mistake that just because your government (which is objectively evil) is enemies with their government (who might be more evil, but maybe not) doesn't make the people enemies of each other. Or you could choose to remain ignorantly bigoted and highlight your low IQ, but whatever.

I used to have Snap-On.
I use Wright ratchets, sockets and wrenches. They are high but they're nice. I much prefer them to Snap-On. If you want quality premium Made in USA tools, I highly suggest Wright.
But to the OP's question, I have a DeWalt set that I keep in my truck and it's held up well.

Your words. This started when I pointed out that if you don't want or can't afcord american made then HF is your best bet. That's when you dropped your little smart assed comment so I felt the need to dig a little deeper. I am pretty firmly convinced, after your evasiveness, that you are strictly a price point/cheap arse shopper and dont support americans with your dollars in any way.

Yes, the Williams line is very good. Don't forget the Bluepoint line as well. I have several of their ratchets. Very good if you don't want to pay the full Snap-On price.
