I thought they built a park out if it.

The Astrodome is located in the center of NRG Park and surrounded by acres of surface parking lots
NRG Park is 350 acres of Harris County-owned property surrounded by the City of Houston
NRG Park is the size of 108 downtown Houston city blocks
NRG Park could fit the entire Downtown Houston Convention Center district, including BBVA Stadium, Minute Maid Park, Discovery Green, GRB Convention Center, and Toyota Center within its footprint
Although a Harris County public asset, NRG Park is behind secured fencing with controlled access, limiting public access and free entry
Located in the center of NRG Park, there is no public access to even the exterior of the Astrodome without purchasing a ticket to an NRG Park event
NRG Park is located on the Red Line of METRO’s light rail system between Downtown Houston and the South 610 Loop
NRG Park is connected to the growing system of bikeways across Houston by an existing off-street bike lane running along Holly Hall Road
There is interest in “greening” NRG Park to create a park-like setting along main pedestrian pathways within its footprint

That place was amazing for a kid in the 70's.

The county needs to be responsible. How about a large storm detention pond?
We’ve got a flooding problem here because we keep paving concrete over all the vacant land.

World's largest putt-putt maze would be my vote.
They wanted to do all kinds of things with it yet nothing has been done. It costs COH about $7M/yr to maintain it.

i want to preface this comment with :
1. i grew up going to astros games in the astrodome, and i have a very special place in my heart for it
2. i literally have two astrodome seats in my garage
3. seriously, i have a painful level of nostalgia for the astrodome
it needs to be demolished.

is this where you send problematic large storms? i like this idea. i retract my previous statement about demolishing it.

Make it 1 big hospital solely focused on ACL surgeries and rehab. Oh the irony that would be. I think that field single handedly kept orthos in business in the 70's/80's.

Didn’t work well for the Superdome.

My thoughts exactly. It's the perfect stadium for me, but it's time to let it go. You cannot functionally keep something like that around forever despite the nostalgia

Still a pond. The field level is already below street grade, if you recall.
