House is on the market and wife starts talking about the “nightmare of packing everything up” and I look at her like she’s nuts. I tell her I have no intentions of packing a single box or picking up and carrying shite to a trailer. I’m hiring movers to do everything. You baws ever moved and bought the full package from 2 guys and a truck? Wondering how much they cost a day.

IDGAF how much they cost. Put it on a credit card and pay it off when the check clears from the bank if you have to. I ain’t doing a single thing other than directing traffic during a move.
I decided about 10 years ago that I would never do it myself again. Best money ever spent.

I hired Henry Hauling. It cost about $2k to move everything between 2 5 bedroom houses. They did a good job.

Easier yet, have an estate sell, sell everything down to your underwear, and buy all new shite when you get where you're going.

I worked for a moving company the summer after I graduated from HS.
I have no idea of the cost, but I can tell you this. The people employed by moving companies are:
1. Just out of jail/prison
2. On their way to jail/prison

I typically spend whatever it costs to avoid hassles, but I don't mind packing up cabinets and the like. If you start weeks early and do a couple boxes a night I don't think it's a big deal and you clear out tons of clutter doing it.
Of course, I've never hired movers that required you to empty drawers, so that makes a pretty big difference I guess.

Do not use 2 men and a truck. Long story but they were terrible all around.
Atmosphere was much better. More expensive but worth it.
Moved from Mandeville to Nola. And back.

They helped my cousin move a few years ago. Pretty good service.
My experience moving as a kid was packing most personal things and clothes but we had North American move all the big heavy stuff.

The cost of the movers was miniscule compared to the cost of the shite stolen from us in our last move.
We had movers, plumbers, painters and electricians in...so no way to prove it. But I am pretty damn sure it was the movers.
Our fault for not securing valuables. I get it, but the hell my wife raised after losing some of her late mothers jewelry was historic.

Just make sure the company has insurance. Besides possible damage, I've had friends tell me that theft has been known to happen. Make a detailed list & don't accept delivery until the list is checked off.

I don't mind doing the actual packing as it gives me the opportunity to get rid of a bunch of stuff before the move. I can't tell you how many things me and the SO tossed and were so glad that we did when we moved into the house.
As far as the actual moving boxes themselves, I will always hire movers. Always.

Some good points about valuables. When i have had movers in the past i moved firearms and valuables myself ....alcohol too. No sense in giving these model citizens any opportunity.

Letting movers pack your belongings up is a good way to get a bunch of shite stolen from you. Its really not hard packing things up. and like someone else said, its a good way to get rid of shite you don't want/need anymore.

Having them move the boxes and furniture is a good idea - letting them rummage through your stuff while packing for you not so much.

We had movers twice. The 2nd time we had a few boxes missing from the kitchen area. My ex complained about it for a few weeks/months, but as I started looking around in the kitchen she was right. Some valuable china wear and other kitchen stuff.
I would box up valuable items myself and certainly, guns, hunting/fishing knives, fishing gear is coming with me in my own truck. Take pictures of EVERYTHING ELSE to make sure the movers deliver your stuff. They do steal.

Hired Two Men and a Truck about two months ago. My apartment displaced the wife and I to tear out the walls and insulation after our unit was flooded due to their external fire sprinkler system burst during the extreme cold up here in Knoxville.
Thank God my insurance covered displacement costs. The company was easy to work with, though that depends on your local management. The workers were great. It was all done in two days. Move out lasted a little longer than it should have because one of their hand trucks broke on the stairs.
I think all the services cost around 2.5K. That was covered by insurance, but if we were to move again, I'd probably pay out-of-pocket. I'd never want to do it on my own ever again.

Yes
Whatever you pay, it’s worth it.
Not worth the stress and sweat and potential injury

Same. We moved ourselves last time but I'll never do it again.

I moved two years ago and hired movers to do the entire thing. My new house will be done in about four months and I will be moving again. I will be hiring movers and I'm only going 10 miles. Like you, I will never do that shite by myself again.
