It’s not really a high, but it does a really good job of deleting any anxiety from you mind. Great for sleeping or killing boredom without hangovers or really any side effects at first unless you drink on them. A couple beers and 1/4 bar will have everyone at the bar hating you

It’s commonly prescribed, probably over prescribed, so very easy to come by and not terribly expensive. The problem is you can get very dependent on them.

While I may be as cynical as you in many contexts, this actually has some basis. Look no further than the King of Rock and Roll. He thought of this stuff as "medicine". He found diet pills gave him energy when he was in the Army. He carried that habit over to abusing these when he would try to lose weight for a movie, a big show or a tour. He ultimately developed a very, very impressive addiction to the entire range of pharmaceutical offerings, but eschewed marijuana and cocaine, because that was "dope" to Elvis. In his case, Dr. Nick was prescribing him 10s of thousands of pills and he knew damned well it wasn't legitimate.

i will have to look further than the king of rock and roll because that was like 50 years ago.

he said a lot of kids don't think of pills as drugs and will take a benzo but won't smoke weed because it's a "drug". that is not a thing that is happening. in 2023, everyone knows percocet, oxy-whatevers, and xanax are drugs.

Again, I would tend to agree with you from a general proposition, however, there is a dividing line between taking medications, as prescribed (for pain, ADHD, anxiety - you would agree, there can be a reasonable, non-recreational entry point for all of these highly addictive agents, no?) versus seeking out cannabis, meth, cocaine, as recreational drugs from the jump. And then the line is quite grey from taking as prescribed, taking more than prescribed and then getting addicted.

I'm not saying that awareness doesn't come at some point, but part of that process is: "I'm not doing drugs. This was prescribed for me. They just don't think I need it any longer and I do." It's bullshite, but it's different than starting from a point of wanting to get high.

What am I missing?

2 every 4 hours is still enough to knock even the mightiest OT baller off their arse. Guess this guy never considered why nobody in America would sign off on this brilliant idea of his.

ETA
This dude should be thanking the whale for saving his life. That detox would have killed him, because there's no way this guy had the presence of mind to taper down.

kids seek out benzos, opioids, and stimulants because they're well known recreational drugs.

this is a construction worker's path to drug abuse, not an adolescent's. but yes, this "can be" the path.

percocet, adderall, and xanax are very well known recreational drugs for younger people. they are in every rap song and all over social media.

i'm just calling bullshite on "kids think it's safe because it's medicine" angle because the fentanyl risk alone has been shoved down everyone's throat for the last 4 or so years... not to mention there was plenty of awareness before that.

Plenty of people of all ages in this country will happily take Benzos, ambien, adderhol, or all three of them daily because theyre doctor prescribed and even mix them with alcohol because it's legal but they wont touch cannabis because they may fail a drug test or theyve been misinformed their entire lives.

Plenty of young dipshits and college kids will take Benzos, ambien, adderhol, or all three they can get from a friend or dealer but wont touch cannabis.

Our country is backwards in almost every aspect.

what about a time release pill dispenser makes you take the pills? it just dings and opens up at a predetermined time interval.

Wont touch weed? Only if they are getting tested from some reason

I’ll give some runaway to the idea that there is preception that prescription pills are “safer” but let’s not get ridiculous

Zoinks. I'll never touch benzos again. Xanax makes you black out and clonopin had the absolute worst wd's I've ever had from anything. And you don't even get high from em, all they are good for is helping land off of other stuff.

What do benzos do?

I had a prescription for a few months, it was really nice. You kinda just feel nothing. I had absolutely zero social anxiety and in general nothing bothered me whatsoever. The drawbacks I found were I was a total dick sometimes because I didn’t care what anyone thought, and they felt really good so coming off of them was not pleasant. It’s kinda like dip where in the back of my head randomly I’ll think, “damn, a xanax would be amazing right now.” They were helpful for my situation.

yeah, and the withdrawals, if you try to quit cold turkey, can actually kill you... so you have to taper down, and depending on the severity of the addiction that could take YEARS to truly taper off completely...
