Is the news more depressing now or has it always been awful?

Today I’ve seen 3 separate news reports of mothers killing their own children, all under the age of 5. Have these people always existed and the news just didn’t report as much on it or is society getting worse?

I miss when presidents getting blowjobs dominated the news cycle. Simpler times really.

The United States hasn't been in this dire a position since World War 2.

It's hard to say really. I do believe people have been doing outrageous evil stuff to each other since the dawn of time but now you see it no matter what corner of the earth it occurs on.

No. Back in the day when w was president we were way better off. You could ride a bike everywhere, didn’t have to go to work, chicken nuggets every Friday. Sad how Obama ruined it all

People did some dark fricking shite before the 24 hours news cycle, nobody ever heard about it.

I'm old enough to remember simpler, more innocent times, when the worst thing you'd hear on the news was hijacked jetliners flying into buildings.

This.

Newspapers only had limited space for content. The nightly news and local news only existed and highlighted major content. Not every story was covered.

I'm sure there's always been a certain % of the population that were terrible humans, but now there's a lot more people so the number is higher. And the 24 hour news cycle doesn't help either.

That's why I have almost completely quit watching the news.

its about the same really

just think about it, all you used to see was 30 minutes of news once, maybe twice a day, so they only showed you maybe 0.0000003% of the news that was happening

today its all 24/7 news non stop so you see so much it seems overwhelming sometimes, and they are still only showing you about 10% of the news because its censored to only the news they want you to hear

social media has made a larger portion of society mentally ill so you see more sick shite like that happening on a regular basis, plus the media industry has become so enormous you hear about it more

I quit watching the national news years ago, the local news is getting to that point now.. I'd rather watch Two and a Half
Men repeats on IFC.

If it wasn't for weather or sports, I wouldn't watch the local at all either.

The news isn't really the news anymore either, It's other people giving their opinion on what happened.

This. The detailed and lesser news was in the back pages of the newspaper.

Yes, it’s always been a problem, look up Susan Smith. Having kids is both a blessing and a curse, and you don’t know till you know.. I know that seems unconscionable, but not everyone is cut out for it, and some of the best parents in existence are tested, and this I know, personally , as I’ve seen good people pushed to their limits and totally lose the F’ing minds….

24 hour news = more reporting on random stories.

I don’t think it’s more depressing now than anytime before but I do think you care more about the depressing shite the older you get.
