I think people severely underrate just how much Mwani impacted winning in his 3 years here

Or one person severely overrates it.

His "win share" in 20-21 was 1.6...same as Josh Leblanc, and significantly lower than Thomas, Days, Watford, and Smart. In fact, he was benched in favor of Aundre Hyatt in the last 3rd of that season. He was so important to winning that he played a grand total of 14 minutes in the NCAA Tournament over the course of 2 games. Last year he was 5th on the team in wins share...behind Eric Gaines

That's not to bang on the kid, and of course it would have been nice to have him all of last season. But his loss was not a huge difference maker. At best, LSU wins 1-2 more games if he plays all season. He's a decent role player. But to say he's had a huge impact on winning in his time at LSU is inaccurate.

Well, Mwani will have a chance to have an impact on next year's team. If the team is successful, we may overstate Mwani's impact, but if the team is unsuccessful, then we'll probably attribute little to his loss this year. It's impossible to tell what his impact was exactly. It may be a coincidence that his injury coincided with when we got much worse, or his loss may be the reason we got so much worse. All we know is that Mwani has been a starter since he arrived, and that both Wade and McMahan seemed to think he was worthy of starting, so he must be contributing to the team's success. How much was Mwani and how much were other factors is unknowable, but we'll at least get some clues based on next year's results.

This doesn't take into account that players improve. Maybe Mwani's play this year was much better than in past years, particularly on a team that relied more on his contributions. Even if he got replaced in the lineup his freshman year, that doesn't mean that this year's player would've been replaced on that same team. I tend to think Mwani would've helped us win more than 1 or 2 more games, because of his shooting and defense, but I don't think he would've propelled us into the tournament.

Really was looking for him to do an "enter & commit" type move. He graded out better than Cook this past season, brings more defense, and has multiple years of eligibility.

ETA: The above isn't a knock on Cook but just a frame of reference for Stewart.

Some blue checkmark (7k followers) predicted we’d land Girard with their other guy going to West Virginia

Damn that’d be another nice transfer.

Would honestly love where we are at if Mcmuhun could have held on to the touted freshmen.

I take it you saw Brandon Murray is ole miss bound

Yea, he announced yesterday that he was transferring, and then an hour later, it was announced that he was visiting WVU this weekend. Girard looks to be serviceable and not a big upgrade over last year's guards. So I would expect him to be a role player?

The ACC’s 6th leading scorer is a big upgrade over Justice Hill and Adam Miller

I came by when Duce committed for fb and told you he’s fantastic and will fit in great. Different story with Joe. Great kid and contributor for four years. He’ll get streaky and take over at times. He’ll also give you more wtf moments than any fan base should have to endure. Shoddy decision making right down to the last possession of the last game that knocked us out of the conference tourney this year. And zero defense. He couldn’t keep anyone from driving past him in a zone. Being thrown into m2m is gonna be ugly. I can’t imagine he’d accept it after four years of starting but he’d be a great instant offense guy off the bench if f he committed to not playing hero ball.

He’s been a leader for all four years and we’ve massively underperformed for pretty much all of it.

And I hope I’m dead wrong and he just needs a change of scenery to get things straight. Lots of talent.

Matches up pretty well with what the advanced metrics indicate.

I watch syracluse almost as much as I watch my Tigers, due to having one of my best friends of 30+ years being an orange woman fan, so my favorite teams are LSU ALWAYS, and whoever is playing the 'cluse.

Girard is no hofer, but he is LIGHT YEARS better than the crap we chucked out on the backcourt last season. As you said he's very streaky, and only mediocre as far as athleticism, but he's definitely a take. The guy we really want is Jesse Edwards. He would be a FANTASTIC addition to this roster.

Girard would have had no prayer playing for Wade (at least as a starter), and I actually talked to Girard (EXTREMELY polite and nice young man) at an EYBL event before he committed to the 'cluse, and he told me LSU and Wade had never even contacted him.

Now on to my obligatory question for you fans(usually Bama) that have a different school for each sport: why isn't LSU your men's basketball team, and syracluse your football team? I know the answer, just wondering if you do or will admit it. Clue: it rhymes with puntrunner.

If you aren't in reality a 'cluse men's basketball fan, and LSU football fan, I apologize, and please disregard the question above.

If the “why lsu?” question was to me, my wife is LSU and Destrehan high school. Soon after we met both teams won nation titles in New Orleans. For a while we joked that I got her football and she got my basketball out of the marriage. Now I’m not holding up my end outside of soccer and ladies lacrosse, sadly.

Football was great when I went to Cuse. I came on the heels of a Fiesta Bowl win and we had guys like McNabb and Marvin Harrison and Freeney when I was up there. After that fell off a cliff, marrying into a top sec team has been so much fun.

Look man, this ain't the end of the world. It's just HILARIOUS how inevitably, when someone has split allegiances between say, Kansas and Clemson, they are NEVER Clemson basketball and Kansas football fans.

Most people are front runners. I'm LSU ALL THE WAY in the sports I follow. I only keep up with the top two, however. Football and men's basketball. It's America (for now) and you're still allowed to cherry pick winners. That's just too easy for me personally though. I just give the two (or more) college guys crap when I meet them.

North Texas transfer Abou Ousmane has been hearing from several teams in the transfer portal this offseason. The 6-foot-10 forward averaged 11.1 points, six rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game this year as a junior for the Mean Green. According to Andrew Slater of The Athletic, Ousmane has been speaking with Syracuse, Seton Hall, LSU, Rhode Island, Virginia, Providence, and DePaul. He’ll be visiting Seton Hall this week and a potential visit to the LSU Tigers is on the horizon next week, per Slater.
