What's ironic is Waddell is now GM of the Hurricanes. And done a good job building them up into a perennial playoff team.

They average about 4500 per game in the ECHL, whatever that is.

It's a minor league hockey association.

I honestly had no idea he was even still in the League.

Sounds like he's learned from his mistakes.

He hired a great coach in Brind'Amour

Another issue is that a lot of fans here have latched on to the Predators since the Thrashers left.

Waddell was a fine GM. When he was asked why he didn’t spend more money at a season ticket holders meeting he said “I like employment”

Obviously it’s minor league hockey.
I’m posting in a NHL hockey coming to Atlanta thread.

Fair enough.

He probably did get too much of the blame looking back when you considered who the owners were.

You guys get their games and Canes games on local TV, right?

I'm not going to get my hopes up on this.

It's a travesty that the ATL Spirit destroyed a burgeoning fanbase just so they could jettison the team in the first place.

Another tragedy that I haven't seen mentioned, or maybe I missed it, was the Heatly/Snyder accident. The trajectory of the team would have been completely different earlier had that not happened. I thought the Hossa trade was the best he could have done at the time, and I really liked the one before the franchise moved to get the guys from Chicago.

Kovy/Heatley could have been ATL's Kane/Toews.

There's an awful lot of What Could Have Been regarding the ATL hockey experience.

That is the smartest thing that they could do. Take a page out of the Braves playbook and play close to your base.

Sure but the Braves are about a 15 minute drive from midtown and just outside the perimeter.

There's no doubt a hockey team needs to be closer to their fan base but Alpharetta is somewhat of a stretch.

The Panthers have turned into a decent organization, they aren’t going anywhere

It would be nice if a 9 mile extension of Marta to a new north point development was included in this potential scope.

Expand MARTA to Alpharetta and while we’re at it Cobb as well. Atlanta is too big and spread out to not have a solid subway system

Two airports would be nice. Hard to believe a city the size of Atlanta operates with only one airport.
