Not sure how much to read into this, but Keyshawn Johnson, who is Michael Thomas' uncle said on NFL live that MT might be 'available'
No telling how much he knows, nor his inside dealings, but I'm guessing he's been told the guy wants out.

I know this type of trade happens in baseball where you send prospects with value to get rid of bad contracts, but does it happen in the nfl?

what part of his contract restructure did you miss?
it spelled it out as plain as day we are letting him go before the deadline or we fully guarantee him 50 million or something like that
he is gone, nothing will change that, nothing, and the only reason he agreed to the restructure, was so he can leave to go to another team
