The Intimidator, Dale Earnhardt, left us 22 years ago today.

Wreck
I actually remember this like it was yesterday. Makes me feel old as dirt. I didn’t like Dale, thought he was a dirty racer in his later years, but he was the villain we loved to hate. I felt like the sport needed him, love or hate him.

There is still a void in NASCAR that his death created that no one else has been able to fill. I think the sport would be different in a lot of ways if he were still alive.

Remember it like yesterday. I was just a still than 19.yr.old kid who was 2 months from starting to date my now wife and 4 months from turning 20. Crazy how time flies.
RIP to the GOAT of GOATS.

Absolutely correct. Love him or hate him, there will never be another one like him. They called him the Intimidator for a reason.

Don’t add to thread if you are going to be a dick.

He should have buckled up. It’s his own fault not using a seat belt.

Does anyone remember the movie, “3: The Dale Earnhardt story”? I think it was an ESPN movie. But where can it be found? I know it exists somewhere, but it’s not on Amazon Prime in any form.

Still remember it like it was yesterday. Was listening to it while at work delivering pizzas. It certainly left a void NASCAR hasn't ever been able to fill.

That's exactly what I was doing when I got the news on the radio.

This.
I was one among the many in the stands at Talledega that hated him. Very lil love.
But the old man niche kicks into place. When I think of “WFO”, it’s #3

Terrible day for the sport. Has anyone ever seen the in car photos of Dale’s crash? There’s some on google, but I heard there’s some pretty gory photos the likes of what Ken Shrader saw.

No photos of Dale himself have ever been publicly released. His autopsy photos are sealed and the Florida legislature actually passed a law that kept them sealed (this law was cited by Bob Saget’s family to protect his autopsy photos and information). There are photos of the inside of the car that were used in the report NASCAR commissioned following the accident. There’s blood visible, but that’s it.
Dale suffered a basilar skull fracture, which was a common cause of death among drivers killed in racing accidents. From what I understand, there can be bleeding from the nose, mouth and ears when such an injury occurs. I figure that’s what Schrader saw, though we’ll never know for sure.

I remember it like it was yesterday. Seventh grade.
It was an incredibly good race all day in the Golden era.
Crazy thing is that if Earnhardt was a few feet behind around the lap 175 big one that took out a bunch of cars, and sent Tony Stewart going airborne, he likely would be alive today.
