SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) - Louisiana State Police has released body cam footage from the officer-involved shooting death of 43-year-old Alonzo Bagley, which happened Feb. 3.
The affidavit for the arrest warrant states a 911 call was made on Feb. 3 at 10:51 p.m. Officer Tyler and another SPD officer responded to the apartment on the second floor of the complex. Bagley answered the door and identified himself to officers. Officials say the officers were invited into the apartment and were told Bagley was disturbing the peace. Bagley told officers he needed to put his dog away and the second officer told him to sit down.
According to the affidavit, the person that made the 911 call told police Bagley was drunk. At that time, Bagley started walking to the back of the apartment. He went into the bedroom and closed the door behind him. The document says the second officer opened the bedroom door and went inside, followed by Tyler.
Officials say the second officer saw Bagley grab something off the nightstand and exit a back door onto the balcony area. Both officers drew their pistols as Bagley jumped over the balcony rail to the ground below. Officer Tyler told dispatch Bagley was running and started chasing him. According to the affidavit, Tyler’s firearm remained in his right hand as he gave dispatch a description of Bagley.
The affidavit says Tyler continued running after Bagley, pausing to ask residents on their balcony which way he went. He had his firearm pointed straight ahead when he reached a brick entryway. When Bagley began to exit the entryway, Tyler fired one time and fatally struck him in the chest.

For whatever reason, this one didn't take off nationally with the BLM agitators. I guess I don't understand the algorithm. Video is in the link. Pretty bad kill. Looked like the suspect scared the officer who fired one shot out of fright.

My only guess would be because they just got a GOP mayor for the first time in decades. It may have deterred the Soros money for Rent a Mob.

The family just held a press conference which was fairly measured. Their lawyer said they're pleased with the speed and transparency the LSP acted with, that they believe the charge is appropriate as there's no evidence the officer fired with malicious intent and notes the officers immediate regret and remorse.
At the end, a cousin helped himself to the microphone and said SPD made it clear where they stand on with a $25,000 bond and negligent homicide charges. Said they go out with semiautomatic weapons and have to shoot 100 times to hit somebody and get charged with 2nd degree for specific intent. Called the new mayor a racist for not reaching out to the family and hiding behind the LSP. Called out black people who didn't vote in the election saying they got what they didn't vote for.

Man that sucks all around.
No hot take on this one, it just sucks for all involved.

That body cam video was exactly how it was described to me a few days ago.
Bagley was posted up around that corner trying to be slick and Tyler ran right into him. They were face to face instantly.
Really tough call and super quick decision, but not malicious at all.

Don't run from the police and accidents like this don't happen.

Whatever lol. It’s Shreveport. We’re ALL to poor and struggling to make it to get into all that hyperbole nonsense. Dummy who ran should have known better, cop as unfortunate as it was should have known better, it is what it is. Last thing we want to hear is some ignorant fool going off trying to start crap. Most decent people here know it was a screw up all the way around and is being handled what seems to be professionally.

Not guilty. This isn't that hard.

I've not seen the video, but the suspect ran to the bedroom, picked up "something off the nightstand," and fled into the night. He then startled the pursuing officer who reflexively shot him?
That's a "bad kill"?
Seems like criminal negligence would be a bridge too far in that instance.

Yeah, officer was scared and probably not qualified to be a cop.

So, what's wrong in this situation?
What am I missing?
Sounds like he didn't comply, grabbed a possible weapon and ran or attempted to leave. Is that correct?

What bothers me about the whole event is, what if instead of Bagley right there, it was some other innocent person just heading out to go work the night shift? Or a teenage boy heading back home after visiting his girlfriend, grandpa taking out the trash, etc.
The situation sucks all around but the cop should have exercised more discipline in pulling the trigger. That's easy to say from behind a computer and tougher to do in reality in that neighborhood at that time of night chasing a guy who you think may have a gun. Sucks all around.

Absolutely. You don't want cops running amok that have that little discipline.

And, this is our policing issue in the US.
